Ilr

Is it going to be a major issue when applying to ILR if I did not take Calculas in high school? (pre-calc as a senior...all other subjects I do the toughest classes possible)

do they offer statistics? but make sure you do take pre-calc...as you might need it to prepare for the math test all ILRies have to pass...

my senior year i took AP: Bio, Art History, British Lit, Calculus, Govt/Econ

Okay, I am taking: AP English Lit, AP Euro History, BIO, AP Spanish Lit, and Pre-calc
Here are my stats:
SAT I: 2150 (750 V 750 W 650 M)
SAT II: Not so good, but they do not use them right?
ACT: 32
GPA: 3.76 at well-respected competitive prep school
How are my chances ED?
Also, being one of the public schools, is it cheaper and in the end, you still get a degree from Cornell right? even though it is public?

"being one of the public schools, is it cheaper and in the end, you still get a degree from Cornell right? even though it is public?"
public? It's private. 100%. There have been alot of threads on this, mostly due to the fact that there's a lot of misinformation going on out there.

You'll be fine with your classes.

wait, then which schools at Cornell are public?

none!

NY State gives money to certain colleges thus giving a reduction to some students, but the only connection to the state is monetary. All of Cornell is privately owned and operated on the university's behalf. Further more, the only difference can be seen on the bursar bill - you won't notice any difference on campus or in the degrees offered.

would you say, with my stats, I would have a good shot ED to ILR?

write the best essays you've ever written (they'll be read by 6 different people), and I'd say you have a good shot

do they care more about the common app essay or the supplement essay?

i'm not sure to be exact, but you'll need to demonstrate your interest and need to discuss you as a person, what you've done, what you can bring to the ILR school, why you want to go there, etc.

Just curious - what happens if you DON'T pass the math test that all ILRies have to take before enrolling?

wait....their acceptance is dependent on a math test?! or do you get accepted and then you take the math test? this is freaking me out

if you dont pass, you just have to take an extra math course at cornell. Most people pass, it's a basic 35 question exam.

does not cover calculas?

no, it doesn't even cover pre-calc - and I think it only partially covers whatever is before precalc

It’s a 30 question test and your given one hour…the topics covered are similar to those on the NY state regents math B exam! It excludes trig, and calc…its just basic high school algebra, and you get to use a graphing calc.!!
