Okay, I have read atleast 30 times that to get into ILR your activities in high school really have to allign with ILR...but nobody is able to define what these EC or activities might be, does anybody have a list? I do policy debate and am involved in a lot of political campaigns, is this relevant?

bump (10 char)

if you're doing ECs just to get into college, then I have a feeling you're not going to do well in ILR...

many different ECs tie into what ILR and Cornell as a whole promote...if you cant figure it out...I have to say your essays may be lacking...

I am not doing EC's just to get into college, I have been doing all of my EC's since 7th grade (and I found out about ILR about 3 days ago), I am just trying to figure out of I am a "match" so I do not apply to the wrong college....

be quiet fd36. I did extracurriculars solely for the purpose of college admissions. if it weren't for that, I would have been in the go home club like millions of other kids.

my main EC was the rotary club, which is basically a community volunteer club. we did food drives for thanksgiving, gave out presents during christmas for children's hospitals, etc. absolutely not related to ILR at all. I honestly don't think you need your EC's to "align" with ILR. just write some good BS in your ILR essay. I can send you my ILR essay if you want. Hopefully I still have it somewhere...

Tun: please do send it (PM me for my email) (really appreciate it...thanks), that would be a HUGE help, do you have a good idea for who I could contact in the admissions office if I have a couple of questions and if I want them to have my name?

The whole "call someone to have your name" thing is such worthless nonsense. I think the only useful thing that will help is attending an ILR info session on campus since you gotta sign in for that. You can also mention in your essay that you visited the campus and attended the session and describe what you learned from it. They're not going to keep a list of people who simply call the Admissions Office and ask them questions.

They want leaders, so by that notion, lead. :)
