I realize that ILR offers education in various disciplines. When ILR students apply to the school, what are the MAJORITY intersted in? Human Resources? Law? Labour Unions?

I also read that about 25% of ILR students go into law. Do most students enroll in ILR in hopes of receiving a pre-law education? Or would you say most freshmen come in with a career goal in human resources?

As a current ILRie, a lot of people have different designs for there futures. I know career statistics point out that 30% go into HR, but from what I've seen, a lot of people aren't genuinely interested in HR, it's just that if you get into ILR, getting a corporate HR job is cake, and that's a lot better than nothing. I've met kids who really are passionate about HR and really want togo into that field but I've also met kids who just didn't have a stellar gpa to get into a top law school or stellar finance internship who decided to work for like Target Corp HR or something because it's just available. BUT there's a substantial chunk of kids who (or used to) want to go into finance and law. You can really do whatever you want though.

"getting a corporate HR job is cake, and that's a lot better than nothing"

Well, maybe for a small manufacturing firm, but the big firms that hire right at ILR for HR jobs are very competitive. For clarification, I'm talking about all of the big financials (Goldman, JPMorgan, Citi, Morgan Stanley), plus companies like Google, Microsoft, GE, IBM, Nestle, United Technologies Corporation, Lockheed Martin, etc.

It's tough to turn down offers from these companies, they pay exceptionally well and offer spectacular career growth. Even some of my friends who were not so interested in HR ended up going this route.
