"I'm A Bad Standardized Test Taker" Excuse

That has to be the most annoying thing I have ever experienced; in school and in relation the SAT's.

Ok here's the story:

In my grade, there's this guy who ALWAYS SLEEPS IN CLASS (OMG!), never does any homework, and does mediocre in school (so so...). Ok, so this kid sleeps through life, never cracks a book, and guess what he got? No, really guess before you read... :)

He go a 1540 on the old SAT.

Go Figure. Please excuse me while I go shoot myself. :D

ha, I know the feeling.

There is this one girl in my english class, sits behind me. She lies to the teacher constantly and then writes about it on her livejournal. I want to print it out so bad and just accidently leave it on my english teacher's desk.

we currently just began reading moby dick,

she said last week, "Oh! I read this on my own last summer"
my teacher,"You really are a unique and interesting person, more people should strive to be like you"

me (who has actually already read Ishmael's tale of the sea, sits and smiles)

she writes about how she never read it on livejournal.

first day we have a pop quiz on the book, the girl tells the teacher that she actually had not starting to "reread" the book yet so she got every question wrong. The teacher said she understands.

***.

lol.

You should "accidentally" print out for your teacher. Like anyone would know it's you. Just put it on her desk while she is out of the room on one of her free periods, or during a lunch break or something. I mean, if it's in plain view on the internet, its not like she's trying to be private or anything

I know. it would be so sly, however, I am majorly afraid of karma.

Print it. I hate it when kids, (specifically one), buries himself in the teacher's ass and then talks about how bad a teacher they are the second the teacher gives him a slightly subpar grade.

Hell, if I do well on my SATs, especially verbal and writing, it will just be something to make fun of certain kids about, because they are in AP english. One kid laughs at me and thinks im a stoner, while everyone thinks he is the dumbest kid in the AP class and just spews BS.

manonfire...

Edit: Nevermind. I just looked at some of your posts and realized you're a score nazi. I'm out, no point in arguing with an idiot.

PS: Guys like you are the reason I wouldn't attend Harvard.

Sir, there is no need for such comments. I am a vehement supporter of standardized tests because I firmly believe that they paint a different picture of an applicant, besides his high school transcript, that is crucial to gauging the individual's ability and potential. For example, like someone on this thread was suggesting, you really can't get a 700+ SATV at least without taking some initiative out of the realm of your schoolwork and showing some intellectual curiosity.

Then you are suggesting that we should just forget about school work, tests, homework, working hard, listening to your teacher, etc. and just chill out in the back and sleep through class; maybe then you will be able to magically score 1540+ on your SAT's because you don't care enough about what's actually going on in school to even lift your head off the desk.

A.K.A = > "If you want to score well, slack off in school."

No thanks :D

then maybe they are more inteligent than you kittie?

i dont think he suggested that at all. probably that kids with exceptional talent should be recognized even if they are slackers? people that are just medicrately intelligent and get by cracking books for their A's are in the end just followers and they don't discover anything. all their contributions are just things other people have already contributed. bright people, even slackers, need to be given some opportunity away from following. colleges, in higher subject areas, don't bid well to followers.

Slackers Don't Get The Job Done Because They Are Too Lazy Too Get Off Their Ass To Do Anything So Don't Give Me That Bull.

I get the odd sensation that ETS is lurking here...

smart slackers dont need to get off their asses to do anything

There is really no such thing as a smart slacker. They made give you the impression that they don't study but they do

I'd say that among the standardized tests, AP tests are fairly accurate in measuring academic learning potential within a subject. I guess SAT IIs are a close second. Honestly, I have nothing much against the SAT, but if I was the head honcho at ETS/College Board/whatever company, I'd go with the APs as the strongest indicators. For schools that lack the ability to carry out AP programs/exams, I'd enforce SAT IIs. Yeah, anyhow, that's my opinion.

Wrong. They just pick things up the first time around and don't need to go over it again. (trust me, I know from experience)

I don't think the SAT measures general intelligence. I do believe, however, that there is a correlation between high SAT scores and high college performance. Which is, after all, what the test is DESIGNED to do in the first place. If there wasn't a positive correlation between the two, the test wouldn't have lasted more than 5 years.

And any claims that the SAT is gender or race biased are just frivolous and pointless. I've yet to see an african american or a female who scored high on the SAT claim that it was gender or race-biased, it always seems that the low scorers claim that.

manonfire...
You're a vehement supporter of standardized tests because you do well, and yes, such comments are necessary when you make a post such as this. I'm sure there's nobody who could convince you otherwise, even if they made only logical points. Therefore, I don't argue.

PS: RE: Your 700V theory... The first time I wrote the SAT I, I only scored a 650 in math, and so math was the only thing I studied. The second time I wrote it, my math score went down 10 points, but somehow my verbal score went up 60 points to a 710 without studying english. Does this support your theory?

Captain Acid,
what would make them more intelligent than me? I am not seeing your logic? I was talking about girls in my classes that are good at impressing teachers, work for the teacher (basically they know what she wants..so they give it to her, not thinking outside the box)...et cetera. I am naturally intelligent, I work hard but I don't have to work too insanely hard.

Also, I think Albert Einstein said, "Genius is 99 percent perspiration
and 1 percent inspiration."

I don't concur with your statements about slackers either..slackers are what the name implies slackers...the world is not run by slackers. I can think of many more people who have been determined, hard working people who have succeded than slackers. Really.

Absolutely correct: you don't get anywhere being a slacker; you're ass stays right on the bus, driving into oblivion. Without hard work and determination, where would this world be today?

I know...I think a lot of time slackers defend slackers. I might get yelled at for that statement...but thats the truth.

For instance, my mom is amazing..well, she is very very smart. She has the best vocabulary, memory retention, and general, natural intelligence of anyone I know. However, she did not apply herself in high school. She made A's when she actually felt like going but she decided she didn't want to go to college. She did really well on the sats also. Now, I am admitting that she was a slacker...and in all kindness I say, she does not make a lot of money nor has she made a great impact on society...this is true of most slackers. (I know there are exceptions..but the truth comes down to hard work)
