im a black female with a 3.9 gpa

Applicant pool in this context.

woah, theres more to me than being a black female with a 3.9!!
i work hard for all my grades. i play varsity volleyball and track, im in almost every possible club (fca, fbla, beta, deca, key club and MORE) and class vice prez. i think all that and my gender ethnicity would most likely be helpful in applying for college, wether or not people argue if its fair or not. dont hate and be jealous of me, i didnt ask to be black, but i mean when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.... :)

Well, one piece of legitimate advice: being in almost every possible club is really, really very very bad for your application at MIT. In my totally personal opinion, it probably hurts at least as much as a .5 drop in GPA or a few hundred lost SAT points. I'm not kidding.

Listing a large number of clubs makes you look scattered, uncommitted, and resume-fodder-grubbing -- all really bad things. I think (and please correct me if I'm wrong, others) that MIT would have a very, very strong preference for someone who focused passionately on one or two things over someone who made a laundry list of lots of different activities (and MORE). It's simply not physically possible to make a serious commitment to that many things.

So, for your application, get rid of nearly everything you do and focus on the things you did that mattered to you. Otherwise, you will look like a clueless and insincere student who thinks that more activities = higher chances, and will seriously hurt yourself in the application process.

Do I make this point too subtly? Then again, sorry if I make it too strongly. I just think you'd prefer to hear it now rather than in the form of a rejection letter.

MIT and every other college has made it easier on our lives by only providing a limited amount of spaces for the clubs and awards that you are truly committed to.

thanks ben golub....i never said i was passionate about all these clubs or planning on posting them.... :)
