I am the mother of a high school senior who, like everyone else it seems, is applying to the top schools in the northeast. I've visited College Confidential from time to time and finally decided--albeit with mixed feelings--that it was time to join.

At times I read the forums and I'm encouraged that my son has a chance. Other times I log out in despair, blown away by the achievements of 17-year-olds far more accomplished than most adults. Who can compete with brilliance, school spirit, and philanthropic acts in the community?

Thank you for welcoming me. I am looking forward to being a part of, and contributing to, this supportive community.

welcome. it helps to just remember that cc represents a very small percentage of high school students. yeah, it can make you feel depressed when you read that the kid with the 4.0 uw gpa and 4.8 weighted gpa with perfect test scores got rejected from harvard even though he was a captain in 5 varsity sports for the past 4 years, taught blind children braille, and was personally consulted by the G8 to help solve world hunger. just remember that your kid may not have done things like the people on this site but he/she still has a chance. good luck

Avoid the kid areas and the What Are My Chances? forum.

You will find a lot of helpful info on here, but don't get intimidated and remember, trust your child's counselor and teachers if you have issues, not random people on the internet!
