I'm a current NYU student-ask away! VERSION TWO!!

Do you know much about Gallatin and how the students design their majors? I was accepted but I realized just how little I know about the majors :-P

for GSP, what AP classes do they accept?
and how do you send the scores to them ?

thanks

Bre JL: I'm not really sure about Gallatin but its pretty cool cuz you get to choose all your classes and design your own major. there are a lot of workshops and stuff involved though. check out the website that should explain all

runningknight: you send your AP scores through collegeboard. you can place out of language, science, and math classes with a 4 in the respective subjects. I.E if you have a 4 in AP physics you can skip out on taking a year of GSP sciences

For all schools at NYU can you get credit with AP Exams?
I'm guessing you need a score of 4? Or do 3's get anything?

4 or higher

Thanks alot Jason. :)

no problem

Jason, Can you please do me a big favor. Please tell me and many curious others applying to Stern and really upset, if we did nor get a university day invite by now,March 26, are we going to get rejected? After all university day is a reception for all admitted students. What happened last year? Please ask a current Stern student if possible. Thank you!

Jason: So is AP US History score of 4 worth anything for GSP?? Do I get any credit? In addition, is it worth it to take AP AB Calc? I dont really feel like taking/studying for it...can i easily get by it in college?

thanks

i'm posting here so that the Official Decisions 2005 thread will DISAPPEAR!!!

is it worth it to go to the SCPS for hospitality/tourism management?
and wat about job opportunities after graduate?

thx a lot!

Do students from the other college view GSP students, and the GSP program, as academically rigorous/equal? What type of reputation does GSP have @ NYU?
Oh, and how much flexibility do students have in taking electives towards their majors once allowed to?

is it easy to make friends? the scattered dorms and schools will definitely make it difficult, no? Are there any cliques?
i'm a bit worried as I will be going there all by my lonesome self.

kkgirl- not a lot of students actually know what GSP is so there isn't really a stigma. some teachers GSP teachers (prof. regan who's a gsp alum) make playful jokes about it. once you're out of gsp you can take whatever electives you want towards your major

collegeohmy- i'lll be honest it's a lot harder to make friends here than at other schools. there is a serious sense of community and it can be rather lonesome. i recommend kliving in one of the traditional dorms( hayden rubin weinstein goddard) rather than 3rd north or u-hall if this is a problem for you.

i didnt read this whole thing, so i dont know if you addressed this already...
which dorm would you recommend being in next year?
i have been doing research, but it is hard to know which you want without asking someone who knows...

which dorm is the best? really wanna know haha.
and is it really hard to make friends? i go crazy when i feel lonely :(

okay. the important question. about financial aid. i'm getting $15000 amount of trustee scholarship. and other aids nyu offered are all loans. is there any other way besides loans to afford the tuition? please help T_T

thank you very much

nejny: I recommend picking a traditional dorm (rubin, hayden, weinstein, goddard etc). this is becuase they are more social than the apartments and it will be easier to make friends. also they are closer to "campus" and so the walk to class is shorter and there are more dining options.

jklmn: I would recommend Hayden (supposed to be most social) and if not Hayden then ruben or weinstein. I'm sorry but besides loans and scholarships I don't see any other options to help with financial aid

i was accepted to stern, but i never got an invitation for the university day thing... i'd really like to go visit the university before i make my final decision...anyone know a way i could arrange to attend this event? or some sort of college visit/information session? does stern send one later or something? thanks

I think you could schedule a regular tour through the NYU 'visit us' site. I scheduled an additional tour for my Dad the day after the University Day that we were invited to.

jklmn04- we can be friends!

i'll be leaving for ny by myself as no one from my school is going to NYU :(
