I'm a current NYU STUDENT- ask away!

..........

is getting in worth all the effort? i think so. it's a great school, with a prestigious reputation, excellent professors, and an amazing location. what i like most about nyu is that right from the start, you learn to be on your own. nyu doesn't really hold your hand. my friends in other schools are terrified of graduating, getting their own apartments, and really being adults for the first time, because their schools haven't prepared them for that. friends at marist, penn state, uconn, providence college, etc- they all know the college life and nothing more. at nyu, you live in your own apartment (and most dorms, especially for juniors/seniors, are not very social, so you really do feel like you live in your own building), most people by the time they are juniors are off meal plans so you are buying and cooking your own meals, and pretty much everyone at nyu has a job/internship of some sort. i'm not worried about graduating because i've already done the real life aspect- i'm prepared in ways most college graduates aren't. i think that's what i really love about nyu. it's also very well known in the city for having diligent students, people know it's extremely hard to get into, and the programs are just amazing- study abroad, career center, graduate programs. and to be honest, when in your life can you ever say you lived in manhattan, didn't have to worry about rent, and could just experience life? that said, the tuition is extreme, but i really see that as the only downside. unfortunately, it is a major one, but i think the education and experiences you get are worth it, if you take advantage of it.

How is the food at NYU?

I love reading stuff about NYU. It really makes my heart flutter sometimes. But you know what could be potentially depressing? Rejection. After all these posts, what if I get rejected? Aghh... I really want to see decisions now to get it over with. Sr. yr has been wearing me down. :(

Anyway...back to the original point of the post.

Would everybody agree that U-Hall has sweetest suites w/ the most social pple? I don't think I'll mind walking 20 minutes. A lil exercise is always good :)

^lol.. I hope you've visited the city before.. it will be a huge culture shock from Ohio to NYC.

risingsakura- i didn't go to cornell because I had to stay in NYC because of family issues
h20nline- i've heard a lot of good things about U-Hall. I live in 3rd Ave North which is about 3 blocks (5min) away from U-Hall. U Hall is in a very nice area and the walk to campus is only about 15min
CowFun- the food at NYU is decent. its better than some other colleges as long as you dont go to the same dining hall every single day than its not that bad. but definetly eat out sometimes

I've only lived in ohio for 2 yrs. I've lived most of my life in Seoul, which is one of the busiest cities in the world. And yeah, I visited NYC.

^lol.. I hope you've visited the city before.. it will be a huge culture shock from Ohio to NYC.

I'm from a small farm town in Virginia (population about 14,000). I remember the first time visiting NYC...MAJOR Culture shock. I loved it though. Can you just imagine a bunch of country bumpkins walking around NYC with their mouths wide open? lol

country bumpkins. lol

hmmm i see a lot of people (along with myself) are considering uhall as their first choice for housing...but isn't it gonna be part of the sophmore cluster next year? i reallly hope not because i visited uhall and i love it, has anyone heard anything about if the rumours about the sophmore cluster with uhall and palladium are true?

1) do very many transfers have dorms?
2) is theft a problem in the dorms? i have an lcd tv that i want to take with me but i don't want it to get stolen.

all these discussions about dorms and what to take with you, etc is making me feel really nervous. I mean ED applicants get priority on dorms, so if i get in...whats left? Lets hope i get in...

LOL im sure not all of us will pick just hayden and uhall

:)

are there ever any just...parties, or do most people just go to clubs, bars, hit up the city, im talkin old fashioned type parties? idiots? lots of beer?

im sure there's plenty of both

most ppl got to bars or clubs. alot of people just buy hard liquor and drink in their dorms

see that please!

Jason or NYU06,

Just wondering how Rubin Hall is regarded these days... (I lived there maybe 22 years ago on the top floor...) My daughter is considering NYU and it seems to be one of the more affordable options- can only imagine why??

Thanks!

Are there any Tisch majors who got deferred to GSP?
