I have a total of 92.9930 grade points...I dont know what that means

nascosi
1) Yes I think you have a decent chance
2) You write an AMAZING ESSAY that is very unique
3) I would just go with Fall 2006
4) Make sure NYU is really where you want to go and show the reasons why in your essay. Talk more about wanting to be at NYU rather than in NYC

u will have a very tough time getting in. slim to no chance

legionaire, who are you referring to?

If you don't mind me asking, what was your essay about?

If you are unwilling to share, do you have any other specific advice about the essay?

Thank you. I appreciate your help.

Does anyone know about the social work program offered at NYU?

my bad, i was referring to excel

What About Me?!?!?!?!

thanks .................

ihateCA: you have a good shot. Your SAT is good, but you still have time to put it up further since you are a junior. Work on the SAT II's, perhaps take one more. Try to do the best you can this semester and give you gpa a boost. oh yeah, get some leadership which always looks good for b-school applicant. Only thing I see holding you back is you gpa, but I am sure they will take into consideration you course load. Apply ED if you really want to attend Stern(greater chance of getting in) and take a heavy course load. Good luck, you should be fine.

(Legionaire) No problem, but do you have any advice for me?...

I am currently a freshman at Louisiana State University (1st semester 4.0 with 16 hours) (2nd semester-14 hours, with my first honors course in the LSU honors college)
-white female
-majoring in psychology (going for CAS)
-went to a parochial hs (3.6...several honors courses & one AP) (only one C on report card ever)
-sad act score of 22
-fairly heavy ECs (High school-some national recognition regarding speech and debate...and other Ecs such as dancing and campus/church ministries, etc. – some awards, etc.)…I am involved in some college activities as well and have a job in my dorm…

Do I have any chance?

What can I do to stick out?

Would it help to apply for Summer 2006 as opposed to Fall 2006?

You spoke of GSP as a place where the majority of the kids have low GPAs but high SAT scores. What are the requirements for GSP's EC and leadership roles? How can I get more involved? What kinds of programs were you involved in?

Do I really have a better chance of getting accepted into GSP rather than CAS?? If so, can I apply for GSP and switch later in the year?

You cannot apply to GSP. NYU looks over the applications and the students they see with potential, the grades, etc that they think would be a good match for GSP-the smaller classes and more personal attention- and then NYU invites the students to that program. A student cannot apply to GSP specifically. It's a crapshoot as to who gets in and who does not, there were plenty of kids from my high school who were higher in class rank, had just as many ECs as I did, and they got rejected outright from NYU and I got into GSP. There is no way you can try to aim for it- try your best for admission to NYU/CAS, and if you don't get accepted then hope they forwarded your file to GSP. Generally they let you know you got into GSP before they let you know if you got into NYU. I found out in February of my senior year that I was accepted into GSP, whereas other kids got their rejections/accept letters in late April.

is nyu education even worth $$$?

it depends what you major in

How about Pre-med/ neuroscience

Jason,

Since first year GSP students have few to no choices when it comes to classes, how is the scheduling? Were you forced to take classes 8am to 8pm? 5 days a week? Since all GSP students are required to take many of the same classes as freshman, what times would the normal classes be scheduled? Thanks.

Bump for anyone who would like to answer my question above.

yanksbgood,
For the first term (fall) your classes are a combination of being chosen by you and by the school. You will get a form in the mail it will ask if you want to take classes from like 8-11 11-2 or 2-5 or something. You choose a time slot and they will schedule you for classes around that time. After the first week of school starts if you're not comfortable with your schedule or your teachers you can change it around anyway you like through the website. Also on the form it asks you which elective (sciences or histroy courses) you wanna take first term. For spring term everything is completely up to you and you choose whatever time and teachers you would like.
