Im a geology major and I just read an article published in 2009 that said...?

This article said that the geology program at state was on the chopping block. Obviously it hasn't gotten cut because I am majoring in it and will be a freshman this fall, but is it in danger for the future?? Also, why were they thinking about cutting it from MSU? Because if they do, I dont know what I'd do.

I’ve heard rumors, but nothing permanent as of yet. If you are there when they cut it, they keep it in a kind of limbo until you finish the degree (at least that’s what they’ve done for at least one or two of the majors that I know of that got cut). I know that they voted a few years ago to keep it open and do some reforms, but I haven’t followed it too closely. If you are concerned, talk to an adviser.

I think they are not cutting geology altogether but instead consolidating the program. Right now there are 3 related majors - earth science, geological sciences and environmental geosciences. I don’t know how that’s differed from years prior but I’m pretty sure geosciences will be around in some form at MSU for a long time. Don’t worry too much
