I'm a Hopkins '24, and We Need To Talk

Hi all!

I’m a member of the class of 2024 at Hopkins, and I want to take on leadership roles and try to help facilitate change in the community during these next four years. One thing that’s really important to me is changing the way the public thinks about Hop - a lot of the stereotypes about the school do not apply anymore, and I want to help make sure that more people are aware of that.

I’ll try to respond to posts in the JHU section of CC so that I can help out any prospective students, and my inbox is always open if anyone has specific questions. Although I’m still just an incoming freshman, I am friends with many '23s and am well acquainted with the culture of the school.

To prospective students, I want you guys to know about how cool the community at Hop can be! I’m in many groupme chats with fellow members of my class, and we’ve all already grown super close - many of us have roommates, if not entire groups of friends already! This year, we worked really hard to organize everything (thanks Kobi), so we additionally have a spreadsheet with info about committed students & a document to find roommates, along with our own discord server with voice chats that seem to never be empty… Everyone I’ve met, from 24s to current students, has been super kind and completely erased any idea of the environment being cutthroat. We, despite currently having a groupchat of 700+ people, are a very tight-knit community and are already making plans to cry-study at Brody together before Intro Chem tests hehe

I’ll be around, I can’t wait to hear from prospective students!

good for you , I hope every school is as well connected, what can you suggest for other kids at other schools to help them be as connected as you are with your school.

:heart::heart::heart: (also :heart::heart::heart: kobi)

Hello! I’m also a member of the JHU class of 24 and I’m very involved in organising everything. If anybody is hoping to make a network like ours. I think it’s all about trying to contact everybody you can and make as many platforms as possible so everybody has a place where they feel comfortable.

We have GroupMe, Discord, and even Remind. When we see a problem- like people muting the group chats because there are too many notifications- we try to fix it- in that case making a remind for all the important stuff without any of the socialising.

We also try to advertise these platforms as much as possible- we’re putting the link to the GroupMe in every virtual info session that JHU hosts, posting on the official Facebook page, and we’re personally messaging everybody who muted the GroupMe to invite them to remind.

We want to make everything as convenient as possible by putting links to all of our platforms and resources in one google doc that we can share whenever a new person joins the group.

I’ll admit, we may be going a bit overboard, but it’s working well so far. I’m also open to any questions about JHU and if you’re an admitted student feel free to message me for the link to the GroupMe.

hi there! please send me the link to the groupme!
