Hey everyone I’m a high school junior and I have a 1.3 gpa, yes I know this its sad but I feel lost right now as I don’t know what to do. I’ve been considering dropping out and getting a GED so that I could attend a community college to bring my GPA up and then hopefully transfer to a university to pursue what I want to major in (Metaphysics/Theoretical Physics or astronomy).
Is there something stopping you from graduating normally (albeit with a low GPA)? I am not clear on why you have to drop out.
Without knowing your circumstances, you would be better off pulling your grades up where you are. Dropping out, unless for some family/medical/etc. hardship, does not make for a great transcript.
That major is NOT for you.
Are you able to participate in a credit recovery program this summer? Can you retake some courses to bring up your GPA? I would keep moving forward another year towards high school graduation before considering dropping out.
yeah i think it’d be better to stay in school and try to bring up your gpa
and you can do whatever major you want, low GPA or not; as long as youre motivated enough to work hard in college, you’ll do great in whatever field you choose
best of luck!
You need to talk to someone about why you are so unmotivated. You also should see a career counselor.
I’m in almost the same situation as you, but you have it much worse. I am not bashing on you since mines is no better either. The best choice for you right now is to consider community college. Do good and then transfer. I plan to do that as that seems like the only choice I have of getting into the school I want. Best of luck to you.
Definitely finish HS with a diploma. Take a little time and work and then, when you’re ready, start at a CC. You can take one or two classes to see what interests you. There’s no need to start right away in a FT program. Be kind to yourself. See if you like the major that currently interests you. You’re going to be fine. Really. So many kids mess up high school, especially super smart kids with huge imaginations. You might just be one of those considering your desired major. CC has been the beginning of great careers for many people. Give yourself time to change and grow.
Try to finish high school & then supplement with GED classes after. Then apply to community college. Remember we don’t operate on fixed timelines anymore. Demonstrate an intellectual curiosity first, then select a cc.
Yeah - I think overall, if you’re at a 1.3 GPA, I think you really need to sit down and think about why you’re in the situation you’re in. Motivation? Academic difficulties? Social problems? Family? I’ve been in your similar boat before and I feel like there are many contributors to GPA such as that to assess. Best wishes to you, man.
Community College accepts everyone, most don’t even require transcripts. Try to go to CC and try to do your best there. Always strive for a 4.0 and then transfer after 4 semesters.
I think @reasonable is right. You need to figure out why you are where you are, and how CCol won’t end up the same way! If you are taking Honirs and APs, don’t. Just take a comfortable schedule and try your hardest. Otherwise, I don’t see you succeeding in those majors! What will you change to pull yourself out of this?
Just want to note that Community Colleges DO require transcripts; you will need a diploma or GED to matriculate and to obtain financial aid. If you want to go part-time and not matriculate, transcripts may not be necessary, but you can not get financial aid as a non-matriculated student. Also, you will be required to take placement tests, particularly English and Math, and may be required to take remedial courses depending on your test scores. Finally, it is possible to be denied admission to a CC; you must show an “ability to benefit” based on your placement scores. That bar is pretty low though.
