Hi, I'd love to help fellow Indian international students apply to MIT or other colleges in US. Having recently graduated, I hope to answer questions that you may have as the application season approaches.

I know it is cliche.

Did you have an Olympiad medal? Were there any Indians you knew without medals?

Hi, I did go to an Olympiad, but I was accepted to MIT before I even knew I was going. Yes, there are enough Indians who have never appeared for an Olympiad or received a medal. It helps, but not as much as you think it does.

How is the scenario for undergraduate admission for MIT?

Any idea about gre requirements for Marquette University (MS in Computational Science) and how is the university?

@mit2014eecs Hi, do you you remember what were your 11th grade and 12th grade midterms/pre-board marks?

@sidshah9 you need to be a little more specific in what you’re asking about MIT admission requirements, will be happy to answer!
@admakkar I’ve only ever applied for an undergraduate degree, where we give the SAT and not the GRE. Sorry about that!
@mak1702 I did the International Baccalaureate, which scores us out of 45 points. My predicted score was a 45. There isn’t a parallel really, but in general a high enough score is ok. Beyond a certain point, most universities don’t care about #1 in the class vs #2 - your extra curriculars, how passionate you are about the things you do, and how well you can communicate that matter a lot more.

firstly thanks for volunteering to help…i had some questions, plz answer whenever you find time…
- Are extracurriculars really that important? I didn’t do much at any olympiads but am a national level sportsman…i have led my state’s tennis team in U-14,U-17 and U-19(twice) and have won national tennis tournaments also over the past five years, but that is the only EC i have really achieved a lot in…would that be enough?

2) I had a 9.2 in 10th…does that count for a lot?..i made up for it by topping by 11th and 12th midterms though
3) Is a 2220 SAT good enough?
4) If I don’t need scholarships would my chances at the UC’s or MIT shoot up?
5) I expect a top 500 rank in the JEE…does that count for anything?

I am sorry, i might be pestering you,but its very difficult for a small town kid like me to get any first hand information…thanks in advance

I’m not a Indian but I really want to ask a question.

Is high SAT score really important to get into any universities. Is anything below 2000 a straight reject?

@mit2014eecs Thank you for our last answer. Do you mind me asking what were your extra-curricular’s?

Hello
I am applying for fall semester 2015 and I have good SAT and ACT scores
I have a great school record and I would like to know which schools need our 12 boards mark list.
Also, will they decline me admission on basis of boards, even after I am accepted ?
Thank you
P.S. I have heard that most colleges only want school record of 12th and not boards marks

@mit2014eecs plz reply

@mit2014eecs could you pls tell me.Rank in IIT JEE exam can help me in my application for mit.My rank was AIR 1118.and how mit admission officer see student with IIT JEE rank.

@saurabh1R US colleges dont care about IIT
You would be better here with an AIR 1118

I’m an US highschool student looking to enter a college in India. What requirements do those colleges check? I’m interested in business colleges like IIM.

Dude, don’t. That’s my advice

How are the work opportunities for an international after you graduate from MIT? Are you staying in the U.S or are you coming back to India?
