i'm a rockstar's son. so will this help me?

Indian student living in NJ (prior post). Dad is Norwegian with studio in California (Wikipedia). Although, come to think of it, there's no way that blots out him being the posters Dad.

"Indian Canadian living in New Jersey" who realized his GPA was getting hurt a bit by his guitar-playing so he straightened it up and got A's... cmon, what's not to love here?
THe point is, if you wrote about your dad's influence on you, musically or personally, that's cool b/c it's about you and what makes you tick. You'll make it on your own.
Good luck. What I really think is that people will want to be your roommate so on parent's weekend they can shake hands with your dad.

Have him donate a building before you apply.

I am a teacher at a high school with celebrity children. Believe me, those kids get into all types of highly selective colleges that their grades, SAT's, and intelligence would not.

See "The Price of Admission" chapter 3: the fame factor.

i don't think it would help you at all, you don't get priority since your dad was in a band

^ Haha - alright Mr. Authority!

Not true - if his dad can bring the school fame, money, whatever - then it will help him.

Did every body forget Yale, Harvard, and another killer school (which I forgot, either Stanford or Princeton) almost started a fight to have Tony Blair's son go to their school?

Euan Blair ended up going on a full ride scholarship to Yale, from which our president graduated. Hmmmmm.............

And this is all about the colleges thinking they can wring money out of the moms and dads.

Come to think of it, when I did the Counselor-O-Matic thing on Princeton Review.com a few years ago it asked if one of my parents was a celebrity.

my mom's an indian canadian. since i look almost exactly like russell peters (who's half white too but still looks completely indian) i just go by that.

by the way, the couselor-o-matic is seriously a joke when it comes to accuracy.

Wow, gullible little bunch.

I'm not aware of your financial situation, but needless to say, the better off you are, the easier it will be to gain admission

Take me down to paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.

Seriously though, it'll probably depend on who reads the app. I doubt it'll give you an official boost, but if the admissions officer is a fan who has fond memories of seeing your dad rocking out in '92 or whatever it might give them warm feelings that would shed a positive light on your app. I think it all depends on how they feel about the two bands.

So here's another persepctive: I don't think it matters if a reader has even heard a single song by your Dad or either group. I'm so old that, I'm just sorry but I haven't. Don't kill me; you probably havent' heard some of the music I know...so imagine if I were the AdCom:
Your family upbringing is simply unusual, innately interesting, so it means that by osmosis you've perhaps picked up some interesting perspectives on life. There are l000 parents who are lawyers, teachers, socialworkers, or in business, but maybe on that whole campus only one with this set of experiences that formed him.
If your home was filled with music, you heard stories around the breakfast or dinnertable about travelling and dealing with crowds, or you got some idea of how he balanced his music with the business decisions, you come from a very interesting and unusual background.
It's not about celebrity or fame, but it's about having some uniqueness. Maybe it taught you to look for creative solutions to things, not to conform.
If that's coupled with your being a good student, then I'd think your story adds to the life of the campus. Of course, if you're a nasty son-of-a-gun, who cares about you, but if you're fun and nice to be around, I bet it'd be interesting to have a conversation with you about what it was like.
That's how I'd think about it.
And then my mind would move on to looking at what are your qualifications, whether the teachers' letters of recommendation support you, all the usual stuff. After all, it's you, not your Dad, who has to wake up and get to classes, take exams, and keep it all together!

paying3tuitions is right- if you grew up with a celebrity Dad and you actually stayed focused on school instead of trying to hook up with Paris Hilton or going into some Malibu drug rehab then yeah, use it to your advantage. It's your birthright. I would if I could.

You people are all NUTS! Do you really think a rock stars kid is cruising around this site uh no!!!!!!! He's cruising around Jessica Simpson's panties drawer. This kid is clearly a fake looking for some laughs, and you naieve hopefuls are giving him those laughs! kudos to you student 1 you fooled a lot of people.

oh goody this site just keeps getting better and better...

mike, chill, anybody with enough time to post fake stuff on CC deserves to be laughed AT, whether they are laughing or not. Also, if he was faking it wouldn't he pick a better celebrity? Not that the Guns and Roses drummer isn't awesome, but he isn't at the top of the list.

Anything remotely related to GNR is awesome!

paying3tuitions:

You have never heard a song by Guns N' Roses? Are you kidding me? Of course you have. "Welcome To The Jungle."
