I'm a Worried Father/mom....CONFUSED!!! PlZ help

Hey! I'm new to the parents forum. My name is Joseph and I have a son in grade 10 currently. I'm really new to this college application process and I want to find out as much as possible so I can help my son out. He wants to apply to an Ivy League university and he always talks about his SATs, PSATs and asking me how to get in?! ( I really don't know) That is why I am asking any experienced parents who know a lot about this university application process (and details) to help me out.

PS. Should I get him tutors?
- if anyone knows a good SAT tutor in Vancouver, Canada
- if anyone knows a good essay tutor in Vancouver, Canada
- if anyone knows a good Latin tutor in Vancouver, Canada
- if anyone knows a good AP exam tutor in Vancouver, Canada
- if anyone knows a good Calculus tutor in Vancouver, Canada

Beastboyx -

I have hard time believing that a father would call himself Beastboyx, and sure enough in your other posts you are a student and not a father. So which is it?

I'm a father alright. I've already told you that I'm new to this parents forum. Beastboyx is my son's account.

wow great book! Thnx audiophile

OK...I'll weigh in here. I think having FIVE tutors in the tenth grade is a bit much. Beastboyx (the kid) should be taking an aggressive courseload at school, and should be trying to do well at that. In addition, he should be pursuing something outside of academics that is of interest to him (arts, sports, community service etc). If it all falls into place and he has the credentials to apply to the Ivies...go for it. Remember that at some of those Ivies, less than 10% of the applicants get accepted (there are a ton of other threads here about that subject). And when the time comes (more like Junior year), start helping the Beastboyx son find a range of schools to apply to. There are a LOT of colleges out there that provide a fine education and not all of them are in the Ivy League.

My advice is to get your own CC account.
If you want tutors for your son, the best way to find tutors is by talking to his school guidance counselor and to parents of juniors and seniors who did well on the tests.

Humm. Vancouver, BC. Throw in a airline ticket plus a few lift passes to Whistler-Blackcomb and I'll tell you whom to hire. :)

On a more serious note, you have come to the right place. Hang around this forum for a few days, ask lots of direct questions, and you'll know if tutors are warranted or not.

PS I second the advice to get your own account.

And even after getting your own account, make sure that your son has logged out and you've logged in before joining the conversation (he said from past experience). Now, welcome to the site and like Xiggi suggests just hang around for awhile, ask some questions, resurrect some old threads that interest you, and take some deep breaths.

Thank you all for the advice
