Does anyone know the transfer accpetance rate and/or have any idea of how many people get into Gtown as transfer students from GW (is this common or very hard to do...)?

anybody?!?!?

I have a friend who didn't get into Georgetown, went to GW's Elliott School for a year, and then transfered to Georgetown. There was an article in the GW Hatchet that mentioned that something like a dozen GW students had transferred to Georgetown over the past few years.

hmmm thats not very many. thanks for the info!

Hmm, my numbers were off, but even a dozen or so is a pretty significant number, I think. How many people from one school transfer to another specific school? Especially when we're not dealing with big state schools or regional public Us but two expensive, private schools.

Having said that, here: "Over the past five years, 272 GW students have applied to transfer to Georgetown. Of those applicants, 79 were offered admission - a 29 percent acceptance rate. Georgetown's regular acceptance rate is 22 percent compared to GW's 38 percent, according to the College Board."

Gtown is very competitive regardless of when you enter, transfer or regular. That being said, in 2005 there were over 1500 applicants for transfer and 250 were offered admission. So its quite competitive to transfer.

The information that I've seen (from 2005) indicates that the acceptance rate for transfers is approximately 26%, but that number varies dramatically between the four schools. For instance, the acceptance rate for SFS is about 17%.

It all depends. I'm going to Georgetown over GW primarily for academics (SFS vs. Elliott). But I know I'll have a lot of friends at GW, (especially since it's a much more gay-friendly environment). it's pretty easy to straddle both schools socially, tho, and if it looks like GW would make more sense for me after the first year at gtown then i'll transfer. Who cares. Not a big deal. Some parts of GW are closer to M street and Wisconsin ave (the heart of Georgetown) than Georgetown itself is. If it were primarily quality of life, i'd just say screw gtown and go to gw. they're both great schools and fun schools with their pluses and minuses.
