I'm an Internation HS student, so how will I be judged in admissions?

Hi,

I'm an international high school student going to school in Michigan, US. Since my high school is only a 50 minute drive from my residence in Canada, I get to go home to Canada every weekend. My official status in the US is a F1-visa status.

When I apply to college, will I be judged as a Michigan high schooler or a Canadian high schooler? My top picks for schools are in the Ivies, and I know that they admit students based on region.

Any relevant information would be helpful!
Thank you!

You are an international student, with a US transcript. You will be in the international candidate pool because you will need an F-1 visa, and because you won’t qualify for federally determined (FAFSA) financial aid.

Some states award in-state status for tuition and fees at public universities to students who have lived in those states for a certain number of years, and/or have graduated from HS in those states regardless of their immigration status. Find out what Michigan’s policy is about this.

Then go take another long hard look at the Ivy-peer institutions in Canada. You can save serious money by studying there.
