What major is the least competitive to get into at USC? I've heard teaching, communications, and earth sciences. Is this true? and if not, which one is the least competitive?

If you're applying as a freshman I don't think it's going to matter. They know all the tricks in the book, and my guess is they're going to decide within the context of the school you choose (ie: CLAS, Marshall, etc.). That being said, CLAS is apparently one of the easier ones to get into.

Best of luck :)

If you don't get into a more selective major, they automatically evaluate you as an undecided, so it doesn't really matter what major you choose from that stand point. However, USC likes to see passion, so if your EC's show demonstrated passion in one of those fields, you are probably more likely to get in there.

the only major at the med school is apparantly really easy to get into because there are so few applicants

if this means anything, i'm out of state (ohio), and i've heard out of state-ers have a more difficult time getting admitted, verses california residents/transfer students. any suggestions on what to select? i'm currently doing the part one application (due tommorow!)

please DONT DONT just put a major just because you think it's the "easy" one... obviously you don't know what you want to do, so apply undeclared. Trust me, being undeclared won't increase your chances of getting rejected (provided you have the grades).. I know tons of people who are undecided. Just be sure to apply to the school you think you're most interested in, it will make things less complicated later on (in terms of switching majors, etc)

That said, there is no undergrad teaching major.

thank you for all your answers! i appreciate it!

tublweed- i want to go pre-med (so i'd probably go biological sciences), but i've been told by numerous people that this is a ridiculously difficult to get into since so many people are going for pre-med.

i'd go undecided, but being out of state, i don't want to add to my "uncertainty" factor, plus i don't want to show a lack of passion.

so maybe i should stay in the science field, and go kinesiology, or health & humanities?

Pre-med is just an additional track you take alongside your major. You can major in anything and be pre-med, so don't worry about that. Further, the acceptance rates to med school are roughly the same for all sorts of majors. They want people who are passionate in their chosen field.

If you're really not sure on a major, I'd recommend just going with undecided. There are plenty of kids who get roped into doing the Bio/pre-med route, don' t get into medical school, and are left with a degree they don't much care for.
