Now, let’s get back to te original topic. 1400 dollars (the actual cost)
is only 700 more than 700 but it could spell the difference between going to a college I like and having to go tomy asfeties, which I don’t really like.
“Anyone who wants to “hang out by the beach and root for a great football team” should not be applying to Cornell.”

True but if I went to cornell I would be at an amaizngly beautiful campus, go skiing all the time, have sonwball fights, play sprint football, eat amazing food and homemade cheese and ice cream, and have top notch academics and classes like wine tasting courses

so anyways what I want i na college is : small class sizes and not huge lecture halls, personal attention from teachers, not for the college to be a city college like nyu or columbia or george washington.

theendusputrid: Because I believe you aren’t a ■■■■■, but a seriously deluded student, I will (attempt to) help you.

First, make a RANKED list of criteria. You say you want:
-small class sizes and not huge lecture halls
-personal attention from teachers
-not for the college to be a city college like nyu or columbia or george washington
But don’t you also want a football team, the beach, etc.? Write ALL of these wishes down and rank the list.

Next, take your 30-school list and separate it into reach/match/safety. Unless you give us more detailed stats (GPA and class rank–going to a top private school doesn’t help as much as you think), we can’t do that realistically.

Within each selectivity group, compare the colleges to your ranked list of criteria. If you have a quantitative bent, you can make a spreadsheet, assign points to each criteria, and calculate that way. Or just go with your gut, but be able to justify every choice in-depth. Rank each category.

Then decide what ratio of reach/match/safety you want to have. I recommend 2-3 safeties (1 being an in-state public or other school that is guaranteed to be affordable WITHOUT financial aid), then the rest split evenly between matches and reaches (perhaps 6 matches and 6 reaches). You say you are on full scholarship to your private school; therefore, $1500 or even $700 should be a great deal of money for your parents. Don’t waste it. In fact, you need to have your parents estimate their EFC and determine whether it is affordable; this will determine whether you should look for need-based or merit-based financial aid.

If you don’t feel like doing that much work, then you’re on your own. I would also recommend at least rewriting the intro and conclusion of your recycled essays.

P.S. Please, for my eyes’ sake, use proper grammar and punctuation. CC is not the appropriate place for chatspeak.

You don’t really need help from CC to shorten your list. Not being able to spell ‘grammar’ should allow you eliminate about 90% of the schools on your list on your own.

Are you a senior this year? If so, that list is really out of hand and you need to cut it down. I’m pretty sure your parents won’t be happy paying for all those application fees. In the end, your only gonna pick ONE school to go to, so cut down your list to like 10 and if you can’t, try for 15.

all right. this is based on the naviance from my school. i know it may seem kinda weird but some colleges love applicants from our school while tohers hate them

One last constructive advice about your college list: only have 1-2 safeties. You only need to get into one school to be safe and since safety schools are likely to accept you, you need 2 maximum.

First, make a RANKED list of criteria. You say you want:
-1-small class sizes and not huge lecture halls
-2- personal attention from teachers
-3- not for the college to be a city college like nyu or columbia or george washington

I don’t really care that much, honestly. but it’s a huge added bonus to be able to cheer for a great football team like ut or usc. plus Itd be awsome play d3 ball at kenyon, amherst, oberlin. I plan to play rugby in college tho if football doesnt work out. I love the idea of being at a beach at usc, in a city at penn, or in te pretty nature of colby or dartmouth or kenyon or grinnel

I have rearranged your list by your characterizations, with adjustments because no matter your school’s Naviance records, some schools are not matches for students with your stats (or what we know of them). Adjusting downward is reasonable, but categorizing a reach as a match or a match as a safety is simply dangerous. You are really putting too much emphasis on Naviance; GPA and SATs are not the sum of an applicant.

Washington and Lee has an acceptance rate of 16 percent and its sat ranges are pretty high. its definetely harder to get into than brandeis.

i only applied to tulane cuz of free app.

i like usc cuz i like the idea of hanging in cali and going to the beach and cheering and partying for in my opinion the best football team in the us . also, my chances of getting into usc are 95 percent, how can I say no to them they’re like begging me to apply.

and cornell is awesome cuz its beautiful and i could go skiing there and play sprint football and take cool diverse courses like wine tasting.

ya ill cross off ucla and add boston college cuz there’s no supplemental essay and its a good football school and boston is a great city, plus according to naviance my chances of getting in are like 60 percent. also, emory is really hard to get into Brandeis is a match and Emory is a reach. seriously if you have good grades and above a 2130 youll probably get into brandeis

“I don’t really care that much, honestly.”
I would just like to say that you criticize those who aren’t helping you yet you really aren’t considering help from those who are helping you. If it really doesn’t matter what you want in a school, then you need help. And since you aren’t willing to take our help, waste your application fees.

you are misinterpreting the conversation completely.

I was asked if I think that whether the college does or doesnt have a football team is a big deal to me. I answered that it wasn’t a big deal. Please actually read before making unsubstantiated assertions.

and I am listening to people and taking advice ok?

It should be fairly easy to get rid of some of the safeties at least.

You can set it up like a tournament for your affections: If you were accepted at American and Bucknell, which would you choose? If you were accepted at American and Clark, which would you choose? And so on. Two losses and the school should be gone from your list because that means you have at least 2 safety schools (really all you need) that you prefer.

Don’t you have a GC who should be helping you with this?

theendusputrid, I’ve checked this thread a couple times over the past day or so, hoping to help you narrow down your list to save you money and time, as it’s gigantic and you obviously need help, but the more I read, the less I want to help.
You can’t attack every single person who dares to disagree with you, and immediately doesn’t offer to shower you with praise and advice. You opened this thread and topic up, so you shouldn’t be picking fights with anyone who posts here, even if you don’t like what they’re saying. Perhaps if you stopped being so rude to everyone who took the time to post here, regardless of whether you liked what they were saying or not, you wouldn’t continuously get off topic. They’re just trying to show you the massive ridiculousness that is applying to 30 schools. And yes, some of the comments are a little blunt, perhaps unnecessary; but as I said, you allowed it by telling everyone you’re applying to THIRTY schools.
That being said, tli83 had some great advice, particularly for your reaches. I’d imply place all of your reaches in tournament brackets or something like that and figure it out. Do the same for your few matches, and then your safeties, which it seems like you’ve already started. Also, don’t add anymore colleges unless you’re prepared to remove even more. You should ideally narrow down your list to 10-15, and that’d be the best, most efficient way to get a smaller list. If you get to twenty, and you’d like more advice, I’d post here again. Other than that, you shouldn’t really need CC anymore; you’ve been given great advice and an abundance of help by many people, its time you took the initiative to start narrowing down.

I can’t think of many colleges with a good football team that does not have a large lecture hall. You probably will have to choose between the two. If you can’t choose, do you have a geographical preference? Your college choices are all over the country.
