I'm applying to a bunch of pharmacy schools.

Here are ALL my stats (minus, uh, gym grades):

denotes Honors
** denotes AP
~ denotes semester course

PSAT: Reading - 66 Math - 64 Writing - 75 (in terms of old SAT, 1300)

Miscellaneous…stuff about which interviews/essays may inquire:

Before I say anything else, I’d just like to say that my rather low SAT scores may be attributed to 1) waking up late and thinking that testing was at 9 AM instead of 7 AM, 2) pointlessly looking at other people’s tests because I thought they were doing the wrong section (I was using a calculator when they weren’t; I didn’t know the tests were different!), and 3) wasting time erasing too much on the essay instead of just crossing out and writing. [Sorry, I needed to vent that.]

So here are the colleges I’m looking into for pharmacy (except the last one):

Rutgers - Ernest Mario School

SUNY - Buffalo

St. John’s University

University of Rhode Island

CUNY Honors College - Hunter (for biochemistry)

Here are my questions:

Do you think that the SAT is harder and/or more difficultly scored in March because it’s the time when most people take it?

Considering my better PSAT scores, do you think I’ll be able to get SAT scores at least at that level; or are SAT’s supposed to be harder?

Is TRANSFERRING to the 4-year professional programs – including those of universities not listed above – after 2 years of biochemistry easier than APPLYING FROM HIGH SCHOOL?

Is it true that admission to Rutgers relies solely on GPA and SAT scores? If so, what do you think the average SAT score would be?

How much money – loans, work-study, grants, scholarships, etc. – do you think I could get from each school (my parents have approx. $10k saved up for college and make approx. $60k gross household income)?

If you don’t feel like answering any of those other questions, please tell me this: Which colleges do you think I have a more than 75% chance of getting into?

I want your honest answers for those questions because I have been reading College Confidential posts for quite some time and have begun worrying about not getting into college/college costing too much. In fact, I spent about 3 hours today looking through posts I’ve already read in a desperate attempt to reassure myself that I’ll be able to get into an affordable Pharm.D program. Due to my low SAT scores and subpar credentials in comparison to most of the people I know who got into Rutgers Pharm.D (my top choice because of reasonable tuition), I’ve been very anxious and anticipatory for the next SAT Reasoning Test, which I’m taking in May.

The stress has been gnawing at my mind, especially since AP exams start just 2 days after the SAT. I’d just like some feedback to perhaps ease my soul so I don’t have to go on another unavailing 3-hour Google search for admissions statistics for the aforementioned colleges.

Thanks for your help! in advance

I can tell yuo for a fact that Rutgers pharmacy is one the best programs in the north east. Is is very hard to get into, but very well regarded by all the major pharm. companies

Fair shot at all colleges, but you will definitely get accepted by SUNY... no doubt. =/

Thanks for the input.

Anyone else?

why don't you aim for medical school!?

I'm pretty lazy so I don't think I'd pass the MCAT's; and being a physician is like twice the work/money. I like pharmacy because it's good pay for only 6 years of schooling, and chemistry is an entertaining subject for me.

Plus, most of the med schools near me require 1400+ SAT's! And I'm only aiming for 1260.

Medical school usually refers to a graduate program, and as far as I know, they don't care about SATs at all. And a 1400 is significantly below average on the SATs, unless you're talking about the old ones.

Yeah, I meant the old ones.

Exactly. I simply questioned your decision not to go to medical school because i was amazed at your great stats. You have good enough Sat scores and I guess that shows your aptitude for standardized tests like the Mcats. And it's not really that big of a deal where you go for college, what matters more is getting into a good medical school .

SAT's only count if yer applying to guaranteed acceptance programs.

I'm applying to guaranteed acceptance (0-6) programs.

...........................bump

A 1260 is fairly decent for most of those, the last time I checked.

bump.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Why don't you apply to better pharmacy schools? Rutgers Pharmacy is not that difficult to get into if you're in NJ, and even if you're out of state, it's still not as competitive as you might think.

Why don't you try for the best pharmacy schools...? You certainly have the rank and the grades I think...so schools like:

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
University of Michigan Ann Arbor
University of Wisconsin - Madison.

I'm pretty sure these are the tier-1 schools for pharmacy. The good thing about these schools is that they offer awesome programs besides pharmacy, unlike some of the schools you're applying to like St. Johns. Bad news is that I don't think they offer 6 year guarenteed acceptances, because pharmacy majors are very competitive in these schools.

Thanks for the input!

I looked up UMich...it does have guaranteed 6-year program for select students...with an SAT cut-off only a little above what I have.

hey i am also trying to apply to rutgers pharmacy
i am a current junior, and my gpa, at the end of my junior year, will be about 3.98. (weighted) 4 is A, 4.3 is A+ in my school.

my sat 2's are 2c-770(i will retake to get 800)
chem-780
and i am taking bio soon. i sHOULd get above 750.

my sat 1, which i will retake is 620 verbal, 780 math, 590 writing(almost made me cry)

i volunteer in pharmacy. and live in NJ.

what would my chance of getting in to rutgers pharmacy be?

Those schools don't have 6 year programs
