I'm applying to Yale tomorrow...so CHANCE ME!

Okay, my OFFICIAL official WAMC thread:

AP US History 5, AP Eng. Lang. 5, AP Calc AB 5, AP Stats ?, AP Macro ?, AP Physics?

EXTRACURRICULARS/AWARDS
Varsity Golf (10, 11, 12)- very competitive team, county champions, undefeated last season
Student Paper (11, 12)

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Organized golf-themed fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma society, in honor of my mom, who's fighting the disease
"Buddy Ball" 40hrs.

JOB
Caddy at prestigious country club since freshman year...VERY PASSIONATE about my work and it's the subject of my Commonapp essay.

SUBJECTIVE
Essays: I'm positive they're excellent. Have worked very hard on them and they've wowed everyone who's read them so far. Truly the strength of my application, besides SATs
Recs should be excellent: one is from a teacher who loved me so much she kept all my work, and the other says I remind him of himself...in a good way

HOOK/MISC
No real "hooks", though I have the advantage of having a VERY DISTINCT idea of what I want to do with my education that I have expressed/will express this in my essays and interviews.

Yale SCEA
Princeton
Cornell CAS
Northwestern
Georgetown SFS
Duke
Virginia Arts & Sciences
Bowdoin
Wisconsin (Arts and Sciences)
Rutgers (in state safety)

i like your chances. your testing is obviously perfect (except for writing. gosh 10 points! jk). i think the idea of your essay, if well written, can be outstanding. The only problem i can find is your actual performance in school/rank (but the upward trend is good)

**** I just threw up... "prestigious country club"?
Anyway, you're probably in at Cornell, NW, Georgetown, Virginia, Wisconsin and Rutgers... Bowdoin, Duke, Yale, and Princeton may be slight reaches due to your GPA.

Thanks Millhouse. Good luck with Wharton.

Yeah. I developed what can only be considered an anxiety complex about schoolwork, beginning in about 4th grade and ending between ninth and tenth grades.

My essay is about how caddying helped me get over this fear complex by forcing me to do things I was once too afraid or shy to do (I am exceedingly timid about some things). So, the grades will be somewhat explained in my essay.

As far as the testing, I got a 790 on writing because I ran out of time on my essay. Spent too much time planning it.

Okay, so that is a little snobby. But it is very highly regarded and difficult to attain membership! (I'm just a poor caddy, not a member, not even close).

I really really really like your chances for yale. worst case scenario: you end up going to princeton or cornell ;-)

plz return the favor

Shameless bump

Yale SCEA-good shot
Princeton-reach, but it normally is
Cornell CAS-good shot
Northwestern-very good shot
Georgetown SFS--good shot
Duke-match
Virginia Arts & Sciences-match
Bowd.-I don't know enough here, sorry
Wisconsin (Arts and Sciences)-pretty much safe
Rutgers (in state safety)-as you said, safe
I think you have a great chance at all, but, did you list your UW or did I miss it? Because that would for sure affect your chances

I think you are an awesome candidate stat wise but you are kinda weak on EC's. I mean, no leadership except the fund raiser unless that was more than a one time event. The fact that you had a job for so long is excellent. As with all Ivies, you can never be really sure. I just think you need really stellar EC's to get into those kids of schools. Great stats wont cut it, everyone has those. I think you have a decent shot though.

You're right. To be honest, I'm not a leader. I have a passive, type-B personality. If they're looking for leadership, I don't deserve to go to top schools. If they want smarts, I deserve it.

And I have no idea what my UW is. I can tell you my courseload is strong, but not the toughest in the school (6 APs, the rest honors except french last year)

Feed me opinions!

Yale - Reach
Princeton-Reach
Northwestern-Match
Georgetown SFS--Match
Duke-Low Reach

I didn't chance the others as I don't know much about them.

Hope this helps. :)

wow i am so impressed by your stats. i think you have a really good shot at all these schools, however i think you might be a little weak on the ec aspect. regardless, you are bound to get into at least one or more of these schools. although i would still call these reaches, just because the schools are a crapshoot. Good luck!

One last bump.

Yale - Reach
Princeton-Reach
Northwestern-In
Georgetown SFS--In
Wisconsin - In
Rutgers - Great Scholarships will be coming in for you!!!!
Duke-High Match

Reach:
Yale SCEA
Princeton

Most Likely in (at least at some of these):
Cornell CAS
Northwestern
Georgetown SFS
Duke
Bowdoin

In:
Virginia Arts & Sciences
Wisconsin (Arts and Sciences)
Rutgers (in state safety)

ECs will probably be your downfall. Your scores are great. Essays better make up for ECs!! :D

GOOD LUCK!!

Well, your writing score is kind of low and your ECs would look better if you had actually cured leukemia, but if you can fix all that by tomorrow, you'll have a decent shot.

lookbeyond: I'll see what I can do :)

Yale - Reach
Princeton- Low Reach
Northwestern-Match
Georgetown SFS--Match
Duke-Match
