I'm so stressed out between three schools right now that I really don't know where I want to go. I wish I could go to all three, but I have to choose one before next week. Can someone of you guys give me any suggestions?

1) USC:MARSHALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION: Junior Transfer. This has been my dream school ever since I was little. Not only because of the football team but just the overall name of it really strikes out to me. If I decide to enroll, based on my financial aid and grants/ scholarships, I would only need to pay around $7000 per year depending on how much I spend money while I'm there.

2) UCLA- SOCIOLOGY MAJOR: Regents Scholarship: Other than USC, I never had a real preference for any school besides SC, but UCLA gave me their most prestigious scholarship so if i decide to go to UCLA, it will be a full ride + an assortment of guaranteed benefits. My only fear is that it will be difficult for me to find a job after graduation with a sociology major

3) UC Berkeley- SOCIOLOGY MAJOR: I'm even considering this school because 5 of my best friends currently or will transfer there this Fall. Based on my financial aid, I will only need to pay $4000- $5,000 per year depending on how much money I spend. Again, I'm worried that I won't be able to get a good job after graduation because I'm a sociology major

I'm heavily leaning towards UCLA right now because of the full ride and the honor of writing "Regents Scholar" on my resume, however, with USC giving me such a great financial aid package, and since I applied as a business administration major, everyone tells me the opportunities and career center at USC will get me a better job. Another thing I'm worried about is the notorious "curve" that USC implements for their business school.

Ultimately, undergrad is only a stepping stone for me. Eventually, after working for 3-5 years I will take my GMATS and apply for Harvard Business School. Sociology is a major where I can get good grades and along with the regents scholar title I'm hoping that It will give me an extra boost on my application.

I'm so stressed out and USC is making me decide before next Tuesday so can someone give me their opinions and suggestions?

Tough call. Since you plan on business school and the difference in prestige isn't great between these three, choose the school you like most. It sounds to me that you want to go to USC but the scholarship at UCLA is influencing your decision. In actuality, even graduating with 7k/year in debt, you will be ahead of most top school grads.

Things to consider:

1) Marshall network is very strong, which makes for better job opps and a better resume in the end than writing "Regents Scholar" from UCLA.
2) Grades are important as you look forward to b-school. Marshall Curve is known to be difficult...so....
3) Most students that end up going to business school DO NOT major in business during their undergrad years.

im in the same situation as you aznboi, I am also a sociology major. And I basically applied to the same schools as you lol...check out "mojo is in a dilemma!" thread. However, if i was to attend berkeley, i will most likely switch my major to mass communications, and a job will be easier to find after graduation (i think). I also dont know which one to choose, although im not a scholar and i havent seen my usc finaid package either.

you can always change your major once you get to berkeley and ucla. to reiterate brand's comment, most MBA students didn't do business in undergrad; they think it's redundant, so major in something you like and comes easy for you so you can get good grades for grad school. my roommate got the regent's scholarship at berkeley--though it might be different at ucla, i dunno--and it really doesn't effect her at all. she doesn't think it's a big deal and no one is wowwed by it or anything.

if you are so worried about finding a job in sociology why the hell are you majoring in it? You are looking to go to some of the top universities in the nation.. choose your best fit college as everyone else has stated above and also choose the school and you can change your major at any time. Every school you listed are VERY good schools, very good job in getting accepted to those. I hope i get your very same three choices although i'd go with ucla without question :D

The reason I chose sociology as my major because I want to use that as a stepping stone towards getting my MBA. I'm probably going to get a higher GPA majoring sociology than business and afterwards, I plan on working for 3-4 years and applying to Harvard Biz school.

Marshall actually upped their curve from a B- to a B and upper div courses in Marshall are at a B+ curve. I just don't want to end up somewhere and regret it for the next two years of my life

azn: you made the right decision. The curve isn't so bad. It comes down to a good GMAT score. People with lower gpa's can offset it with a high gmat/ec's.

it's really not so crazy. I honestly think that some schools FA offices don't even take into account whether a student is a freshman or transfer.

yeah.. I based my decision 100% on the social aspects of SC compared to jhu. My mom actually wants me to go to hopkins, and even tried to bribe me with a vacation during summer but I said no freaking way. haha

um, sc is better for the business department. JHU sucks at everything except for med school and polisci. (Although the JHU alumni are gonna come here and say "oh no, we have a very strong english dept along with history and all the other social sciences :)" but dont believe them :p)

When there is an article in the school paper and the administration acknowledges that a large fraction of the student body is unhappy, something's wrong. Ever heard of the Hopkins 500? lol.
