I wanted to know what types of schools I could get into. Do I stand a chance at the Ivies? Also I haven't started my college apps yet. If I get them turned in before Christmas do I still stand a chance to get into a good college? Also should I report my current ACT scores now or wait till the December results come in if thats possible?
Thanks

My GPA is 4.915 on a 5 point scale and my rank fell due to moving to a more competitive school so that I'm in the top 5%.
Also I'm from Illinois btw.

I'm going nuts here! Please Please Please!

Do I think you stand a chance at the Ivies? I don't see you getting into Harvard, Yale, or Princeton, but you could possibly get into some of the others. Either way, I would still apply to some lower safety and match schools.

Every college has a different due date when it comes to applications. Check the website of some of the colleges you wish to apply to. I believe early decision/action is over, but regular decision applications most likely won't be due until sometime in January. Make sure to check the exact date right away, though.

At last, thank you for answering! I know I can't get into HYP but where can I get into besides state school? What are my chances for U of Chicago, Brown, Penn, Dartmouth etc. For my family the school name is freaking important.

bump........

With your current ACT, not very good. Your GPA is astounding (4.915 Weighted?) but your test scores are lackluster. If anything, you should sell your left kidney for a 34+ on this week's ACT... :)

maybe cornell?
NYU

thanks guys and the GPA is unweighted, our system is messed up, its on a 5 point scale. So if I do get a 34 do my chances significantly increase? Also should I hold back my scores then?

Mixed Asian male as in one parent has Asian ethnicity and another does not?

US Citizenship?

dude my dad is indian and mom filipino. And we're permanent residents.

Your GPA is fine, but your SAT scores will hurt you a lot. I don't think you stand any chance for any IVY league schools - sorry. Your race will hurt you as well. If you are a very good writer, you may have some chance with UChicago. If you are still an International student, that will hurt you even more. NYU is a good match for you if you will not improve much on your ACT.

NYU is extremely expensive in my opinion and I'm not applying as an international student. As for the SAT scores, the funny thing is that I got a 5 on APUSH and a 4 on AP Eng Lang, so those scores were a little shocking to me since I have never been placed below 90 percentile. I was hoping to try again on the SAT 2's but is it too late in your opinion? Also is going to UIUC or UMich AA and then going to graduate school at an ivy a good idea? Also as for writing, I haven't written my essays yet and I believe that my essays won't be very good. Will this be a determining factor in my application?

bump.......

I believe NYU is not more expensive than any of the universities that you mentioned. Umich is a match for you too in my opinion, but it can be very expensive as well if you are an out of state student. January SAT tests scores will be too late for all those schools except for Umich, for which you do not need to retake any test.

would you recommend applying to HYP type schools at all?

Try one or two at the lower end. If you fail, you know what is called reach; if you get in, hallelujah! You are always advised to include a couple of reach schools in your application packages.

thank you, which ones should I apply to in your opinion?

bump.........

come on guys
bump....
