Recommendations:
one is from a teacher that went to nyu herself, one is from a teacher that knows me really well, and my guidance counselor knows me well so that should be good, too

I'm taking 5 APs next year, I took 3 during junior year and one during sophomore year (there was only one being offered.)
I literally think about how much i want to go to NYU everrryday. i'm totally obsessing.
Also, what do you think my chances for Fordham University (Lincoln Center Campus) are?
PLEASE CHANCE ME!!
thank you!

ok, but only since you begged me
1- you don’t need to get into nyu. you may think you do, but you don’t. 10 years from now, it won’t really matter.
2- under stats, unless you’re 1/4 spanish and decide to abuse affirmative action, it doesn’t matter. btw- don’t do this- it’s a real ******* move, because some people actually need it
3-your major helps, but it seems kind of stupid to go to a school focused on finance to pursue creative writing. you may want to consider some liberal arts stuff
4-your gpa demonstrates that you didn’t really take any challenging courses in high school
5-ton of leadership positions, indicates that you are the next obama or you go to a small high school
6-if you can “DEF” get a 30, that’s good for this school
7-sat2’s are not good at all, this caliber likes to see 700+ on sat2’s, and you’re barely pulling 600’s- retake or find something you’re good at- there’s really no excuse for getting below 700 on these- buy some test prep books, read em, score high- that simple- that just shows your lack of studying
8-babysitting doesn’t count as community service, making sandwhiches doesn’t show that you’re empathetic- i do, however, like the volunteering for four years at kid’s station- consistency, compassion, acceptance
8-i don’t think recs will matter

final notes

don’t be obsessed with a college. it’s just a bunch of buildings. I(my opinion) don’t think you have evaluated why you want to go to nyu. english lit and nyu are not compatible

btw- you will most likely get rejected if you apply for english lit w/ that sat2 score

i’d place you at around a 40-60 percent acceptance rate

I think you have a decent, not great, shot at getting into NYU. Also, how many people from your school go to NYU every year? This is a HUGE factor, I know someone who graduated high school in the bottom half of her class and got into NYU. In addition, your ethnicity won’t play a role into admissions, because you’re still 100% European. I say bring up your ACT score (especially English section) and make sure you write some kick-ass essays, and you definitely have a shot. And also, don’t listen to pinkslip, its perfectly fine to go to NYU for creative writing, especially considering the interesting culture surrounding NYU. Oh, and yay for getting a 2 on APWH! (thats my only ap score as of now haha)

thank you both so much!
woops btw, my gpa is only from freshmen and sophomore year. our guidance counselors didn’t put in our junior year grades yet. i took 3 APs this year, though, and did well in all of them. i took the most challenging courseload offered by my school each year. anyway, my gpa should go up.
i called nyu recently and asked about how they look at sat2s. the woman i talked to said they really look for 650s, and i have that with eng lit, so i’m not too worried.
and i haaave to agree very strongly with abcdegsds. nyu is in greenwich village which, in my opinion, is the heart of art in nyc.

Hopefully you need no FA, the biggest issue with so many who must have NYU is they do not focus on the poor aid offered and the huge loans they offer as ‘aid’.

i’m probably going to need FA because i have a twin brother applying to equally competitive/expensive colleges. will applying for FA hurt my chances?
my school doesn’t rank but my guidance counselor said i’m in the top 10% so i’ll go with that.

Applying for FA won’t hurt your chances, NYU is just known for being particularly stingy with it because it’s such a large school. Your biggest weaknesses are your test scores… you want to be an english major with a 650 and a 4 on the AP? There seems to be a disconnect here. Granted, Lit is the hardest SAT 2 but still. If you apply early and write really good essays you definitely have a chance, but it definitely is a bit of a reach. The best advice I can give is to not get too caught up in a particular school… there are hundreds and hundreds of amazing ones out there. Have you looked into any safeties?

i’m also really interested in Fordham’s Lincoln Center Campus and i think i have a good shot with that school. i just looove greenwich village because i’ve spent a lot of time there and i’m so comfortable with it.
stupid question: would it help to not put a major at all?

The bottom line is that NYU gives it’s aid to their top candidates–those who could get into higher ranked schools. Needing aid does not seem to hurt chances of admission there, they just accept lots of kids and don’t meet their need.

Its a bad choice for a candidate who will not be at the top of their pool and needs aid. You need to fall in love with some other schools too.

Thx for chancing me. I would say that as of now your ECA is cool but u need to work on your academics a bit. ACT-30+ is pretty imp. I think you should first give the ACT and then ask for comments on this post. Right now I would say that you have your foot in NYU’s door but you are not quite there. With a little effort you will be there!
