Guys what are my chances at case western, michigan, hopkins, university of maryland honors (dont do regular admission), uva, ucla, cornell, upenn

not much leadership. just "participation" in clubs. very average sat for those schools. very average gpa for those schools. don't expect being in a "top 100" school helps. It doesn't. That ranking is really arbitrary. I go to a top 100 school too, but i don't notice any extra bonus colleges give for that.

fastMEd, are you kidding? the average at Hopkins ranges from 1950-2280. I've also heard that a 3.8+ unweighted GPA is wonderful already. His AP scores are phenominal. But I do agree that his EC lacks leadership.

Thats just my input. I dont know much about all these chances, but saying his scores are very average is quite critical of you.

By the data you listed, his score is only 5 points away from average at Hopkins... how is it 'quite critical' to say "very average sat for those schools,' when it is almost exactly correct? I'd say they are all slight reaches... UCLA isn't too far off. Your AP scores are great, but they have very little weight in an application, good or bad or mediocre.

3.8 is not "wonderful". For schools like Harvard or Princeton, it is almost expected if you go to a public school unless you go to an elite private school like exeter or harker.

case western - Low Match/Safety
michigan - Match
hopkins - High Match/Low Reach
university of maryland honors - Low Match
uva - Reach (out of state)
ucla - Sligh Reach
cornell - High Match/Low Reach
