I'm beggingggg for some sanity (ED)

Okay, Does anyone know if my math scores aren't that great but I'm in AP Calculus BC at a highly prestigious private school with an A- and in Mu Alpha Theta, if that will sort of even my 660 math out? I just don't test well in Math... but I declared my major as Political Science..total score: 1410/1600

Also as far as my chances, I am a nationally ranked horse rider (have spoken with the Captain of Columbia's Equestrian Team), sat in on a Graduate class, held over 5 jobs since the age of thirteen, great recs/ essay, I also surf, have 3 years of v ball, Pres of NHS, did an intensive fashion school in San Fran during the summer, am getting my pilot's license, showed political interest (I'm a libertarian, volunteered on McCain campaign) my AP scores are 5, 4, 3, and I have four APs this year, 3.82 unweighted (top 10% / 48 kids) showed a thorough passion for Columbia in app..and first generation college student (does that even help?)

So basically, even with my low SAT score, do I have a chance?

I don't do chances because when it comes down to it I don't know anything, but you play volleyball? WOOO i love volleyball :]

Ya, maybe we'll both be on the club team next year once we're at Columbia!

haha I was looking at the pictures of the club online and they look really good.. you know when you can just look at someone and be like THEY'RE GOOD! haha.. ive played for a long time, but I am just average... ill be the watergirl though!

Did you talk to the equestrian coach? They can often help you

Well, it's only a club sport, so she said I couldn't send any videos. I was really disappointed because I could've been recruited for Brown but I went for Columbia.
I'm hoping just my dedication to the sport will help me in the admissions process?

^^Yes it will. dedication to anything will help you, and hopefully you've presented it well in your admissions package. From what you said, your EC's should offset the SAT score. but I don't know enough. Don't worry, you'll be fine whereever you are with stats like that :)

You have a great shot, and I know this will offend most ppl, but your ec's offset the 640. I mean it's the only explantion for kids who are not legacys, minorities, or athletes who get in with subpar scores (not that yours are because a 660 really isn't terrible, especially for your major).

Ahh thanks, I was really worried about my scores (I still am a bit) but I just don't test well with timing..like kids that are in lower levels of math (with lower grades than me) but have gotten tutors are getting higher scores! But anyways, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed!!

bump (I don't even know what that means)

Just so you know, AP curricula are fairly standardized (the syllabus must be approved by collegeboard in order for the course to receive the AP designation) so an A- at a prestigious private school is only marginally better than an A- at Podunk High School.

That being said, your math score is most likely not going to make or break your application. Plus, you can't really change it at this point... so any anxiety would be counterproductive.

It is supposed to be fairly standardized...Yes, they may be learning the same material but I personally live in a city with a terrible public school system. I have friends in the same classes as me and they do not get nearly as much work and their tests are not nearly as difficult..
I'm not saying it's true for everywhere but I feel as though going to a college prep school has actually weakened my chances for admission
