I'm visiting Rice this weekend for a tour and an interview. Does anyone have any tips on places to check out, or what to say in my interview? I've seen pictures and read all about Rice, but I just want to make sure I like it when I get there.

Assuming your tour is before your interview, I would suggest keeping a notepad with you and jotting down any questions or points of interest you have, that way you could discuss them during your interview.

I also regret that when I visited Rice I didn’t do anything in Houston; we went straight to the university and straight home when we left. If you have some time and resources I would suggest trying out a few things the city has to offer near Rice. There’s a million places you can find more information about things to do.

Even if you’re a bit introverted, I would suggest trying to talk any current students that are around. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your visit.

I suggest visiting Rice Village… its within walking distance on campus. This is where we usually get dinner on weekends.

an interview for admissions? thats a weird time to have it o.o
but yeah check out the museums or anything interesting you find in houston, just use google!

If you want to talk to students on campus they’re all living at Hanszen You could probs ask a stranger to check out their room if you’re nice/not creepy about it

cb- that’s a really good idea! I think I will do that…I was afriad of running out of things to talk about.

slik nik- I think I’ve heard of Rice Village, I’ll definitely check it out. Is it all food places? I got the impression it had shopping and stuff like that.

cowking- Haha, it is sort of a weird time for an interview, but I didn’t have time to come visit earlier in the spring, and I’ll be really busy next fall. School lets out tomorrow, thank god, so it was a convenient time to visit. Museums are fun…are there many near campus?

silentsailor- Why are all the students in Hanszen? I thought they lived in residential colleges all year. I guess its Hanzen for summer session so they don’t have to do too much maintenance on all the dorms? I’ll try to see one of the dorms, hopefully I won’t come off as a creeper. :)

There are tons of museums near campus. Rice is one light rail stop/a short walk away from the museum district, which includes the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. I’m not sure how you’ll be getting around Houston, but if you have a car at your disposal I’d highly recommend visiting [The Menil Collection](http://www.menil.org/). It’s really not far from campus, admission is free, and it has an outstanding collection of Surrealist paintings as well as many other works.

ff – Rice Village is a 16-block area with shops and restaurants. [Rice Village](http://www.ricevillageonline.com)
