I'm confused about english part of the Haas prerequisites

I can skip English R1A with AP exam score, but not English R1B.
Do I have to take English R1B no matter what or am I able to take some other class similar to it (Which I will have to do 2nd semester since class variety at FPF are limited)

Prerequisites, Undergraduate Program - Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley

I looked at their website for prerequisites but I don't get the difference between
Literature/Writing Requirement and English/Reading and Composition Requirement R&C

When are you applying to Haas? If you are applying in Fall 2011 (graduating in 2014) then the Haas lit requirement is no longer required. Just finish up your R1B and all the other Haas pre-reqs (including Math 16B/1B).

Alright thanks, I’ll just take Asian American Studies or something for R1B second semester since I have a pretty bad feeling on my current English R1B class
