Hi, I'm a HS Junior who is interested in schools in the US and Canada (I'm a US citizen). I'm confused about Canadian universities in one aspect, can I take out private loans to pay for school or do I have to get Stafford and the other type (which I can't remember the name)? Also, do you think Canadian or American schools are better and why?
Here are the schools I'm going to apply to and I wanted to know which you think are the best for natural sciences:
Minnesota Twin Cities
University of South Carolina (main campus)
McGill University
University of British Columbia
Butler University

Minnesota is stronger than Butler.

Canadian Unis are very strong, and some of them rank right up there with the best US universities. But the US has more strong unis than does Canada. Heck, the US simply has more unis than does Canada. And the US has more at the very tops of the rankings.

That said, McGill is a very good choice. Another top level Canadian uni is U Toronto. U British Columbia is also quite good. They are head and shoulders above those you’ve listed in the US, other than U Minnesota Twin Cities, which I’d consider very very strong.

If you’re looking at McGill, a comparable school in the US might be BC - give you an idea of the level of school McGill is at.

McGill is at a much higher level than BC. I don’t understand why it is so underrated in the US (like all things Canadian BTW).

Internationally, McGill is normally ranked top 20 in North America.
