I'm confused of CD-R and CD-ROM.

I know this thread is somewhat irrelevent but I'm sure there are many techi people here. So for my Siemens project the guidelines ask us to put everything in a CD-ROM, but I could only find CD-R at my computer store. What's the difference between these two and where can I obtain a CD-ROM?

A CD-R is what you need. CD-ROMs cannot be written to, that is, you can’t put your own information on it. A CD-ROM is something you would buy from the music store with songs already on it.

Careful with CD-Rs though, you can’t remove the data after you write it to the CD. You can only add more data. If you want to be able to remove and data, get CD-RWs.

Hope I helped.

^Thank you!
Where can download the driver for burning files into the CD-R? I inserted the CD but nothing popped up. Btw, my os is Vista.

Open the CD in My Computer, drag the files in, click Burn to Disc on the top toolbar (this is what I remember, at least. I use OSX now).

But I don’t see it in my computer. I’m guessing it’s because I need a driver?

If you don’t see a CD drive in My Computer, then either it’s a bad CD, or your Optical Drive is not configured correctly.
To test if your drive actually works, try play some music CD on it. If it works, then make sure you use an empty CD when you burn. If it doesn’t work, then that means your CD drive is not detected.
In that case, you need to find the correct drive from your manufacturer’s site. There’s no one drive that works for all hardware, so you just have to go on your OEM’s website and look for it.

You shouldn’t need a driver for your computer to detect a CD.
