What would you do if u had to choose between University of Maryland and University of Virginia ?

Before you immediately say UVa here is a few more interesting facts;
IN at Umd's honors program w/ 8K a year
Studying Biomedical Engineering
Want to attend law school

You'll probably have more research and internship opportunities at UMCP. UVA is a great school but MD's honors program is first rate with very talented profs and students. I think the average SAT of B/K students is over 1500 out of 1600. My s interviewed with a prof that just left Duke for a position in Chemistry and Life Sciences who felt that MD offered a comparable education with better prof contact.

UVA still has a better reputation nationally and is in a great college town. UMCP....not so much, but the campus is lovely and the proximity to DC and all it has to offer is a huge plus. Bottom line, the quality of your education at UMCP is going to be more dependent on your initiative and motivation to make the most out of the opportunities.

I'd select UMCP. I've visited both, including UMCP's honor's program. I love UMCP's beautiful campus, proximity to D.C. (including the advantages of getting adjunct professors who are tops in their fields), and the various opportunities there, and I also love its honors program, living learning communities and similar things.

U Va. is nice, but I don't like how it's in a relatively small, isolated town. I think that UMCP's location being so close to D.C. and those opportunities would outweigh the fact that U Va. is more highly regarded overall.

If money is not a concern....UVA! First rate education and first rate college experience! Great college town, save DC for the years after college.

I'm not crazy about the South in the first place, but I'm REALLY not that crazy about the College Park campus- I find it rather ugly. Then again, when I think of UVA, I think of a very WASP-y, preppy environment. But then it's also better academically. Hmmm.

I'd go with the third option: another school. :)
