I echo Justamom's advice to talk with your guidance counselor. She may be able to learn more from calling admissions. If you express your enthusiasm about the school to her that might come through when she speaks to Bing. She can ask what to do to strenghten your application. You might want to consider some of the advice here. Deferred Early Decision Applicant Asks for Advice - Ask The Dean Best of luck.

Flashpatch, sorry to hear the news. I do agree with Perfectedxchaos and Justamom's advice. I also think you will get in RD. Best of luck!

Flashpatch...just to add my voice to the others...i think you'll get in RD. i can't imagine you didn't already! and yes, get some folks writing for you! BE A SQUEAKY WHEEL!

Thanks for the responses everyone.. I hope it all works out.

Sorry to hear you were deferred but besides the lack of financial aid, you shouldn't be upset if you had to attend Fordham.. I know people that have attended there and they all loved it.., I've visted that campus a lot and I got accepted for the spring semester, If I didn't get into NYU, I would definitely be going there and I wouldn't have been the least bit upset... it's pretty selective and a ton of NYC companies recruit there.

...But I still hope things work out for you at Binghamton, Good Luck.

Come on now, buck up and apply to some schools with Dec 15th/rolling deadlines.

Go to Fordham. It has an EXCELLENT business college that is very, very rigorous. Everyone I know who attends the College of Business Administration (CBA) at Fordham loves it. Its a great soccer school, both for NCAA Div I as well as a very competitive (sometimes too much so) club sports league. I am serious....you have been admitted to a very prestigious school, in Fordham, and you should hold your head high. Binghamton may have felt like you would not go there and go elsewhere. Who knows why schools do what they do..its very capricious at times. They may still take you, but frankly, Fordham is such an awesome school with such incredible internships in Manhattan and great contacts for jobs (over 600 companies interviewed on campus!) that you should be delighted. Furthermore, the dorms at Fordham are very interesting with all kinds of different choices, including some that are academically inclined, some that are more rowdy and sports oriented and some that are the typical mix. Its a gorgeous campus. The student body is very, very tight nit. So relax, be HAPPY and pull your socks up!

Good luck.

Apply for financial aid at Fordham. Your scores are not scholarship level for Fordham. Kids at Fordham are very bright...so you will be plenty challenged, believe me! Anyone who thinks Fordham is a skate are seriously deluded. If you are unhappy with your aid package at Fordham (if you already applied) then call them and explain your situation. Its a superb school and well worth the investment! Employers LOVE Fordham graduates because of their work ethic and skillset and personal ethics.

Yeah... I also got into Fordham. It's supposed to be good, man.

Agree with xxJustAMomxx. It's worth a try and definitely shows interest in the school.

Nah, my guidance counselor won't be doing anything to help me at all... I went to talk to her today and she wouldn't even hear me out...

She said "I have other students who are still worried about getting their applications out on time! I can't do everything for you (because I asked her to send out a scholarship application 2 days ago)! There's definitely a better fit for you."

So basically, I e-mailed them and I'll just wait... Hopefully they will e-mail me back.

That's really strange that you got rejected, but Fordham is not a bad school. I say go to Fordham, and perhaps Binghamton accepts Spring transfers and you can transfer after a semester at Fordham. Good Luck and I'm sure you'll be fine.

I wouldn't even consider transferring if I were you...I think Fordham is a better school than Bing anyway... ;-)

I just got deferred to regular decision too but I already got into my first school Rochester Institute of Technology.

SAT 1800
math 560
reading 610
writing 610

aps nhs band all that good stuff

it happens to the best of us. you'll probably get in regular, hopefully. I feel like a loser saying I got deferred from a SUNY.

dude, people with stats far worse than yours get into binghamton every year from my school. ridiculous...

as an applicant, i guess i should be on my toes, too.

Maybe they thought you were TOO good and that you were going to some better school. That's why they deferred you? It's a bit dumb, but that's probably why.

Given that your GC is not helping right now, it might make sense to pull out all the stops on your own, not only to give Bing. more info about you as a very attractive applicant, but to convey how motivated you are to attend. It might make sense to go beyond the email and to send a nice snail mail letter to the person who is the admissions rep assigned to your high school or region letting them know that Bing. is your top choice, with good reasons why, and how much you hope to be there in the fall.

If your semester grades are solid, enclose a copy, indicating that the official copy is also on its way. (And have the official copy sent, of course.) Also, think about additional letters of reference. Are there teachers/coaches/music teachers/supervisors where you do community service/religious leaders/employers at jobs you've held who know you well and could say wonderful things about you who haven't yet written on your behalf? This would be the perfect time to have them write about you. (Make sure you let Bing. know that these letters are coming, and check and make sure that they make it into your admissions file when they arrive.)

Finally, I can't imagine that your scores are a problem, but do you think your SAT's might go up if you retook next week? It's too late to sign up, but if you're a person whose SAT's seem to rise every time you take them, you could show up as a walk-on next Saturday (the 26th) and see if you could get seated. (Call around and see if local schools offering the SAT next week and see if they usually seat walk-on's.) If you like your score, you can have it sent, and if you don't like it, you don't have to do anything with it, as your colleges already have your old scores in hand. (But be sure Bing. is not a school that absolutely refuses to look at January SAT's before going to this trouble, of course!)

Also, some of the schools others are suggesting sound like nice possibilities. You do have time to apply to some of these, and even though it's hard to move from being sure you're getting into your one favorite place to having to apply elsewhere at the last minute, maybe one of those schools would be a terrific fit for you. Just a thought. Good luck!

Wow, I also applied to Binghamton. I am very suprised that you didn't get in with your stats! Makes no sense to me. You'll get in somewhere good though with your scores, etc.
