I'm foreign, please chance me for UT Austin and Texas A&M. Really need some advice, thank you.

So we moved to the U.S about 4 years ago and we came to Houston b/c our family lived here. I started as a Freshman in Spring High School and that was my first school and grade level in the United States. The thing is that when I came here, I didn't know anything about the school system and they basically screwed me over by giving me all regular classes in my freshman year and most in my sophomore year. I had to find everything on my own and I hope it's not too late. I currently have a 3.8/4.0 weighted GPA and a 4.7/5.0 unweighted GPA because I took 2 DC classes and all pre-ap classes except Spanish this year.

I really want to attend UT-Austin or Texas A&M, UT in my first choice but I doubt I’ll make into top 7% :(

My stats (As of 11th grade): Unweighted GPA: 3.8/4.0, Weighted GPA: 4.75/5.0
Rank: 91/766, 11.8% (I was in top 17% in my sophomore year and brought it to 11.8% in my current junior year.)
Took US History and English 3 Dual Credit, a lot of Pre-Ap classes and planning to take 2 AP and 2 DC classes next year, which will be my senior year.
Started working this year, 15/20 hours per week, planning to continue work and maybe increase hours to 25/30.

Extracurricular activities:
• Accountant for Multi-Cultural Club, 3 years
• NHS
• Member of Student Council
• Ambassador of our school’s S.T.E.M academy
• Member of Science Club
Not a lot of volunteer work because I don’t have a car and my parents are busy with work etc.
Got my name in school’s Honor Roll about 5+. Received two certificates for good academic performance. (If that counts.)

I don’t think I will have a good SAT, around 1500-1600 maybe 1700. (Not that good of a test taker ;().
Aiming for 27+ in ACT.

I think that if I keep doing good, by my senior year, I can be in top 10% and get auto-admit to A&M which I really want. I really wanted to attend UT but I don’t think that will happen.

My major will be Engineering, have not decided for the specific field yet but leaning towards Petroleum because I do live in Texas and earning a degree from A&M or UT will also be a bonus. Not 100% sure on the major specific but it will be a field in engineering. Please let me know your thoughts on my stats and every opinion and advice is appreciated, really looking for some help here.

Thank you all!!

I’m very familiar with UT and A&M and think you have a shot at both. Your class rank and ECs are right on target. I would just really encourage you to study for the SAT and try to kill it (UT is especially persnickety about standardized test scores and A&M is quickly becoming more and more selective). That’s really going to be a top deciding factor. I used the College Board prep book and would highly recommend it. Also, I would encourage you to use the fact that you weren’t born in the US to your advantage. Different is good. Use it in your essays if applicable. Hope I helped! Gig 'em!

@livy5loo Thanks you so much, I really need some motivation and hope right now, im not the type of person that gives up and what you said really helped me out. Thanks again and i will try my best.

Bump…

As stated, test scores are very important. Study!
