I'm freaking out about a spelling error!

I just submitted my supplemental essay to Ithaca College. In the second sentence, I just realized that I misspelled "eighth" as "eigth." I am really, really, REALLY worried that they'll just dismiss my application because of this error. Is this a serious issue? I mean, it's in the second sentence of that essay! I have really good SAT scores and a great GPA, but is it possible that they will overlook these because of a simple error?

Thanks...

:(

Haha, don't worry. I sincerely believe they won't disregard your application just because of that. It's likely they won't even notice!

Good luck!

Thanks! I am just a nervous wreck, you know? This whole college stuff is draining.

Oh my God, I've never seen such an odious error! Looks like community college for you, or even jail, my friend!

(But seriously, it doesn't matter. Everybody makes typos and misses them while proofreading.)

Hahaha yeah. I applied ED, and right after I submitted my essay I noticed that I had an extra space between two words. I, irrationally, absolutely flipped out. :-P Nothing to worry about though.

Depends on how many people don't make a typo.

At least you didn't accidentally write that Stanford's school color is red... I'm still beating myself up for forgetting to change that.

Don't worry I had two spelling errors and still was accepted..

thanks guys! I feel better now. :)

i wrote the word "the" twice in a row b/c I forgot to delete one of them in a sentance.
Kinda scared about that too...

i forgot to change the name of the college on the supplement essay since the topic was the same. i applied to princeton/texas A&M with the essay saying UT Austin will be able provide me with the blah blah blah......
how bad is that....???
im scared i might get rejected because of that.

i lol'ed......

redevil, yours is actually somewhat of an issue. UT and A&M are rivals, they will take offense. Princeton is an ivy, so they will just take offense because they are them. :D

I made quite a few errors on my apps. I have also been accepted to those schools on which apps I made those errors so don't fret :)

But in the case of Redevil, I'd try calling those two schools and saying something along the lines of, you submitted the wrong essay so can you please resubmit it before deadline.

I am willing to bet that the reader wont even notice the error lol. You really think that they'll think you're imcompetent because you misspelled?

LOL what would be funny is if on your app you had a bunch of spelling bee awards.

one typo, maybe even 2, are generally forgiven on stuff like resume's/essays.

Every time I see one of these threads, I just think of the hundreds of books I've seen with spelling/grammar errors. If lines of publishers who are paid to edit don't catch little mistakes, you can't blame a college kid. ;)

And best of luck to you!

can i call A&M/Princeton and ask them to void my essay because of a misunderstanding or something and i will be submitting the right essay through postal service as soon as school reopens???. Would apologizing for such a mistake over the phone be okay ?
HELP PLEASE

You're not going to get in. Ithaca puts EXTREME weight on spelling, especially the spelling of the word "eighth".

I've made much worse mistakes even though I tried really hard on my essays...don't stress over it, its pointless and unhealthy to do that
