I'm Freaking Out!!

Hi, this is my first time using this website and I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong place. BUT!! I really need some advice. Lately, I've been getting ready to submit my TAG application for UCDavis. I meet with a counselor at my CCC and she noticed my part time student status. I read that many didn't get their TAG approved because of this. I really didn't know about this. The counselor emailed Davis and they responded that it was fine if I have a reason. My reason is that I met all of my requirements really early on. If I take anymore classes, it wouldn't make any sense at all.

So what do should do? Find a job really quick or just explain to them? If the TAG isn't approved, I don't think my 3.37 GPA will get me into other UCs with a competitive major like Psychology. Please give me some advices!!! Thank You!!

This is why I tagged with UCSC. I wanted UCD but i read ppl got rejected unless they
Had a job. I do have a part time but wasn’t sure thry if they meant full ttime jobs. Im in the same boat only need three more classes. I was to scared to get denied TAG so i just chose another school. Finding a job in a couple weeks is hard why not TAG somewhere else?

I am considering tagging other UCs but I am aiming for the ones closest to me. UCD and UCB are close but they are so competitive. I really don’t know if they will even consider a 3.37 and without ECs. I wonder what are my chances.

UCB would be harder you should have a chance at UCD though but of course TAG helps. You can ether take the chance and explain that you are not full time because you finished your classes… or TAG to another school. I wanted to TAG to UCSD but my math requirement wont be done until spring so I was only able to TAG to ether UCD UCSC or UCM. I chose UCSC in the end its about 6 hrs away from my home. I did it only to have a sure thing. Think about TAGing to another school even if its far you might still get into UCD with your GPA, but having a TAG even if its a far school just as a backup is good.

you can also go through the UCD 2013 acceptance post and see peoples STATs and how they look. are you applying to any cal states? San Fran State should be near you right? Not saying you cant get into UCs. I have a 3.83 and I am applying to at least 1 CSU, as a backup plan.

Thank you for your replies! I did apply for CSUs when I was a senior in high school. After many advices and oppositions, I didn’t SIR into SF state or SJ state. I thought that I would have a better chance at a UC if I transferred. Who knew a C in Chem could drop my 3.5 to a 3.37 GPA. I want to consider UCI but the GPA requirements are 3.40. I know that my GPA will improve by December but it’ll be too late then.

^sonic23 is providing sound advice here.

According to the UC TAG Matric for 2013-14, Davis’ minimum UC transferrable units completed to submit a TAG requires “30 sem / 45 qtr; full-time enrollment at a CCC from spring term 2012 through spring term 2013 is expected; part-time enrollment is permissible for good cause. Students should provide a brief explanation regarding part-time attendance on the UC TAG Application.”

If you think already having your required classes completed, and so dropping to part-time to save money and avoid taking frivolous classes is “good cause”, then submit the TAG for UCD. Otherwise, you should TAG to another UC even if attending would mean moving away – at least something would be guaranteed*. UCSC and UCM are both good options.

Also, it’s admirable to take a shot at CCC to chase your goal of a UC instead of going on your CSU offers, but you should still apply to some CSUs as back-ups. I know I am. If anything, you still come out on top by attending a CSU because you saved a ton of money by attending a CCC for the first few years.

Thanks for your input^. I browsed through the website for these past couple days and I decided to TAG to UCSD. Although giving up on Davis is hard, it can’t be helped. I was wondering how challenging would it be to apply to other UC as a regular applicant and getting into their psychology department. Can anyone chance me?
