Work
Part time at an office since summer between 9th and 10th grade. Only during summer usually.
Part time at a grocery store since september this year. I work about 10 hours a week.

I don't think your chance is as bad as you think it would be. But with that said, neither your SAT score and your ECs are outstanding. So i'd say it's a borderline call between your admission and rejection.

Just curious, but how are my extra-curriculars not outstanding? I take 2 1/2 hours of ballet a week plus rehearsal so thats about 5 hours, and I do at least 100 or so hours through Rotary Club and another 100 through key club. I'd rather have a few extra-curriculars and be passionate about them, then have upwards of 10 and only go to them to be like "Look what I did!"
Oh, and if anyone is wondering about my AP classes or lack-there-of, my school offers APs in mostly math and science; neither of which I am interested in. It also offers AP Spanish, but I don't study Spanish.
Also, I just checked BU's website out of curiosity and it says this:

Middle 50%

Boston University Four-Year Colleges
CR/MT 1260-1410
WR 620-710

I'm not trying to debate with you guys or seem unappreciative of your comments, but my CR/MT is 1250 and the score up there is MIDDLE 50% not "the very lowest score you can possibly get if you even want to consider our school".
I just think that your opinions are a little out in left field.

I hope that didn't come off as harsh to anyone. I'm sorry if it did, and I'm really not trying to start fights, etc.
-Alaina

1250 really isnt that good at all for BU. It's good that you're passionate about your ECs, but there's no variation. You have a few minor clubs, some volunteering and ballet which seems to be your main EC. Nothing bad, but nothing special in the slightest to make you stand out.

OP, you have a bias towards yourself. You're trying to argue that you're a good candidate to a bunch of unbiased people who are just giving you a real look at the reality. Your chances are not great because of your low SATIIs, your unchallening curriculum, and your lack in leadership. But what I just said doesn't mean you can't get in. You might get in but with $0 merit, leaving you in a pile of debt.

Why exactly is a kid who is a high school freshman (at least based on his username -hsclassof2011) giving advice on college admissions? What do you know about it besides reading the silly US book or something like that?

You'll get in, Cefran. Class of '11 BU student here. I know many a student who had similar stats and are at BU now. Your essays have to be good though and I'm not promising an amazing financial aid package...

I had around the same stats when I was a senior in hs except my weighted was over 4.0 (my hs offered a lot of ap classes). But i also had a lot more extra curriculars, not that i had a huge list of them but i made sure to have a few that were leadership extra curriculars rather than just joined a club. I'm not saying that is going to make you not get in i'm just giving you something to compare yourself to. BU will see that your school didn't offer a lot of AP classes adn I think you have a shot. I got in but with no financials aid to CAS

I agree with what ud said.. BU will know what classes your school offers- your guidance counselors are required to send a school profile with your application, so don't worry about that.

Your essay.. needs to really shine. Let them see who you are, don't just be another piece of paper. Let it come from the heart, and don't over-correct it. That's the absolute worst way to do it. If you take your essay to someone and they change it to mean something different, don't hesitate to change it back. This is about you after all.

So, your SAT scores aren't phenomenal. Have you considered the ACTs? I didn't take them, but I had a lot of friends in HS who scored poorly on the SATs and aced the ACTS. It might be work looking into.

I had a 3.5 unweighted GPA and a 2110 on the SATs. BU was one of my reach schools. It's tough to know though. Sometimes, I honestly believe it's just luck.

At any rate, good luck. It's a tedious process, but it's totally worth it.
