so after not studying and doing poorly on the SAT twice, ive decided i want to study and take the ACT. im a senior, but im going to take it because i sort of screwed up my high school career and want to get back on track in case I want to transfer (highly likely). anyway, i have some questions:

do most/all schools accept the ACT? can i just send my ACT score?

im going to self-study, so what book(s) do you recommend? or study regiments?

how long do you think ill have to prep to get a good score (31-36 would be nice)? i got around 1800 on SAT no study, no trying and am fairly bright

i know it’s personal preference, and since im posting this in the ACT forum most people probably think the ACT is easier than the ACT, but what do you think?

is the ACT harsher on time than the SAT? im sort of slow…

is there an essay/writing grammar section? what does it comprise of?

how long is the test (hours or length)? longer than the SAT?

is extra time given on the ACT like the SAT if you have a disability or whatever?

THANKS!

EDIT-- someone recommended these:
Official ACT Book w/ tests ($14-$20)
Princeton Review ACT ($20)
Barrons ACT Prep Book (Barrons is extremely hard) ($20)

Almost all

The one’s u listed are fine

umm depends on ur test date?

For me, about the same

Very harsh on time.

Essay is optional and there is a grammar section (English)

Depends on whether u do the essay but about the same

I think so

ACT

February 7
April 4

SAT

January 24
March 14
May 2
June 6

ill probably sign up for April though if February is feasible i might do that

did you think the SAT was harsh on time?

For the SAT not particularly.
If you run out of time on the SAT reading and math however, then you’re really going to have a hard time on the ACT reading and Math.

The only section on the ACT not so hard on time is English (well at least for me) cause I finished with 10 minutes left over. The other ones I did until the last 30 seconds.

yeah im pretty slow…but i might be given extra time (gettin tested for my slowness ha)…if i end up being diagnosed with something ill prolly give the act a shot

All schools

The Red Book is the best (official ACT)

It’s depends how much time you put into it

The SAT is meant to trick you, but once you get past the tricks it’s an easy test. The ACT is a more straightforward test, similar to tests you would receive in school.

Oh yeah, I’m a very fast test-taker and I occasionally have trouble finishing sections (esp. Science).

IMO, the essay on the ACT is much easier than the SAT. They give you prompts that are “relevant to high school students”, but some of them are quirky.

The ACT without essay is about 3 hrs long. With essay it’s an extra 30 mins. The SAT is slightly longer.

Yeah, but I heard it has to be documented by a doctor for X amount of years
