Well, I'm not GOING anywhere, I want to stay in California.

Here are my stats:

3.95 UC GPA
2000+ hopefully SATs

What's a good university here in California besides the UC's? For some peculiar reason, I feel that applying to ONLY UC's is not enough.

thegame2388:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

that seems like a somewhat obvious question...

Stanford (big reach), USC (small reach)

Pomona, Occidental, Santa Clara, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

Tons of good schools out here. In addition to the ones mentioned above:

Whittier
Claremont McKenna
Pitzer
University of San Fransisco
University of San Diego
Cal Poly
University of the Redlands
San Diego State

You have many options.

Caltech is a good school.

How much would that list CUT if I mention I'd rather go to a school that does not require letters of recs.

I think that pretty much removes most of the privates.

The UCs and CSUs are still good though.

Hmmm.....Yeah well, I'm not very "direct and straightforward" with this rec thing. I honestly can't think of a teacher (well maybe one or two), but they wouldn't be spectacular or anything.
