loslobos you're an idiot. He said assuming all other accomplishments are the same, the 2370 guy would be much more appealing, and that's perfectly true. Unless the 2370 guy had some really strange personality defects or any other extreme exceptions, he would definitely be taken over a 2000 guy with the same resume.

Jason: I think you're going a little overboard with all this. The SAT does not require much studying at all. I took it in June with no practice and pulled a 2310. There are some parts that are just inherent. However, things you can do include:

doing practice tests (dont go overboard with this. maybe 2-3sections/day)
memorize vocab - this is important but don't kill yourself over it. 2k-3k is fine. I did sparknotes 1000
READ - this one's good because if you read a lot, you'll actually be making yourself a more intelligent individual rather than just gearing yourself for a stupid test. Spend a lot of time on this, your CR will also go up.
be very familiar with grammar rules, and do a lot of SAT writing MC - writing is basically a study section, so if you can familiarize yourself with everything, there should be no surprises come test day

It's always a good mindset to go for 2400 though, because if you fail but come close, you'll still have a damn good score. Of course this won't work for someone for regularly scores like 1800

good luck and take it easy...it's summer, go out and have fun

Once again, thank you to everyone for your advice.

cory123, only smart people dont need to study and get crazy scores. a lot of people have to study and practice

I'm an idiot? I'm not the one wasting my time studying over some pointless test...

If it was such a stupid test then why would you even be posting in the SAT section?

Hes probably just trying to meet guys. you know just looking for a smart guy to fulfill his nerd fetish. I think its important that we dont look down on him though, we all need to be a little openminded here

Bahahahaahahaha!!!

I like to click new posts from time to time just to check what crap is posted in the land of CC.

I want to do the same thing!

loslobos: first of all, i didn't study at all for the june test and scored 120 points higher

second, you just proved my point by saying the SAT is a pointless test, despite how important it is in admissions. ye, i'm sure if you just get a bunch of EC's and write amazing essays, you'll get into harvard with that 1800

Iildimsum: i understand that. I didn't tell him not to study, i even gave him some tips. i'm just saying he shouldnt take it too seriously. 5 hours a day is waaaay too much. Some light studying (hour or 2) everyday should be more than adequate

You certainly could, depending on what the ECs were. Regardless, who said anything about Harvard? Why is it that all of you high scorers feel it's essential to go to a top 5 or whatever school?

Yes, you're right that one COULD be able to get into harvard with an 1800. The chances, however, are slim to none.

believe it or not a lot of people on here care about where they go to college, and what their chances are

in the name of all that is good and holy, stop doing this to yourself. You're playing exactly into the hands of this testing industry that doesn't deserve this much of your time or energy or money.

Believe it or not, I did too, but not everyone has to restrict themselves to 6, 7 or 8 schools...It's totally unnecessary.

well I think that you are doing a great job of studying, and have a lot of perserverance, but you might be overdoing it a little. Maybe cut it down to just an hour and a half a day... or at least if you want to study for 4 hours take some breaks. Don't overwork yourself. But I'm sure that in Oct you'll get a phenominal score. Make sure though that you don't focus too intently on getting an actual 2400. If you get a 2350 it isn't going to be the end of the world, and I would totally advise you to NOT retake it if you do get in the 2300s.
