@jazhope321, if 6-8 APs in four years is what the top end of your class will do, I wouldn’t advise taking six in one year. Definitely admire you wanting to challenge yourself but in your case you’re probably better off taking fewer APs and using your extra time to explore other interests. I’d suggest speaking with your current teachers about which classes would be best for you next year, and asking them for help crafting a schedule that will challenge you but still offer balance. You will have little support or understanding if you take so many more APs than other students. In my son’s case, the teachers all know that their students are taking five or six APs; they still assign plenty of homework but they tend to plan their assignmentss carefully. They stick to work that will help the students do well on the AP exam and in college, and nothing else. In your school where students don’t take as many APs, the teachers might pile on more homework beyond AP exam and college preparation. And I don’t want to deflate your enthusiasm, but if you already struggle with time management a few tips from me or anyone else on this site are not going to get you through six APs next year. The students who can successfully navigate that kind of schedule are ones who have already practiced good time management for years.
I think you could do it, I did it. Just make sure to manage your time carefully. I also agree with @traveler98
Please don’t spread yourself out too thin.
There is no point in taking APES just to take another AP. Same with AP art history.
Take the most rigorous level in core classes, math, science, social science, English.
Top colleges will expect three or more years of foreign language. Three lab sciences, bio, chem, physics.
And As or Bs in honors or AP classes.
Is APWH required? Here freshman and sophomores take it, seniors take AP gov or AP econ.
@mommdc There is no AP Physics teacher at my school. They are currently trying to hire one. APWH is not required, but I really like World History and I want to take the class. I’ve already taken AP Bio and got a 5 on the exam.
I didn’t say it had to be AP physics. If there is no AP physics, take honors.
Do you have an update for us? I’m excited to hear what you decided to do!
If I was you, I would get rid of below:
AP Calculus AB
AP Environmental Science
AP World History
AP English Language and Composition
AP Art History
AP Chemistry
If you want to be a STEM major, AP Env Sci is not useful. Unless you are in love with Art History I would not take that either.
If you are a liberal arts major, then still get rid of AP Env Sci.
Spring of Senior year you will thank me.
