I'm going to community college for 2 years, worried about social aspects

I didn’t do to great in highschool, ended up with a 3.3 weighted GPA. I probably will get into states but my goal is going to medical school which is why i want to graduate from a UC. Now I have to spend 2 years at a community college and I can’t stop worrying about how boring and depressing it is. People say you just go to class and go home, you have no friends and it’s a miserable existence.

Is all of that true, will joining clubs or anything save me from the horror? Please help, I can’t stop thinking about this.

Not at all! Where I go is actually very much like a state college atmosphere. There are tons of activities. Definitely join clubs for the social aspect. If you join the student government or write for the college newspaper you will meet tons of people. Have fun and enjoy your 2 years. Don’t stress it’s only 2 years! Good luck on all your future endeavours!!!

Thanks for the reply, it honestly makes me feel alot better. I plan on joining the track team potentially and getting involved all I can. I’m going to make the best out of these 2 years and then move on to bigger and better things.

No that is so not true, I am in community college right now and I have met some really cool people that I can consider lifelong friends and I will miss them very much when I transfer. Just be social!

Thanks for the reply, I guess the bad reputation around community colleges got to me.

I have met such amazing people at SMC, I honestly can’t believe how lucky I am. They are the type of people who leave a mark on you, either by their actions, words, or stories. I’m not much of a partier, so I can’t speak to that.

Make sure to check out http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/ if you want to go to a UC.

Also familiarize yourself with assist.or and https://uctap.universityofcalifornia.edu/students/index.cfm . They will make your transfer plan so much smoother.

I was in your shoes just about two years ago. As I complete my associate’s degree, I can honestly say, attending community college was the greatest decision of my life.

Like others are saying, join clubs on campus. I joined academic honors programs that have multiple extracurricular activities. I also joined student government, I have not worried about social life since my first month on campus.

Dedicate yourself to your studies at community college for the next two years and you will open up doors that you never thought were imaginable, trust me on this.
