I'm Going To Duke!

i think we've all just about made our decisions by now! it was a VERY tough decision for me and though i don't regret it, i still feel bad about giving up some benefits from UNC-CH. so for those of you that are coming to duke next year, post what you gave up for it (ivies, scholarships at other schools, etc.). maybe we'll all feel better about our decisions once we see that we're not the only ones who gave up stuff to go to duke! i'll start. mine's not that bad. i gave up in-state tuition plus a $10,000 merit scholarship to UNC chapel hill. also, i would've been in the honors program there.

i gave up scholarships between $20,000 and $27,000 a year at UMiami, Tulane, Rollins, University of Richmond. Full tuition at Furman. Full ride and then some at University of Florida. I don't regret it at all though!

I gave up Cornell and Dartmouth (soooo hard!) for Duke even though I think it is slightly more prestigious than both.

Last year I gave up Princeton, Columbia, UVA-Echols, Cornell, Rice, Wash U, and others...and I have NEVER regretted it!

good. No regrets.

Good for you, charmedone! I don't think you'll regret turning down UNC. :)

I accepted my scholarship at Wake ($35,000 a year), but giving up Duke was very difficult.

my decision was pretty easy. duke gave me the most amount of money. the university of illinois in champaign (my state school) actually gave me NOTHING! no scholarship. no grants. just loans. so yea.. i loved duke before, still do. GO DUKE!

I gave up UPitt honors-full tuition scholarship, UMich LSA honors - $20,000 scholarship, UVA, Cornell Eng, Brown, Cooper Union - full scholarship, and Swarthmore. Duke just rocks all of them. :).

I turned down Dartmouth, Amherst, Columbia, Northwestern, Wustl (8500 / yaer in scholarships), and vandy (27 / year in scholarships)

Wow, that must have been rough.

Yay,another Dukie! :D

Turned down Cornell,CMU,Tufts,BU Honors(full tuition scholarship) and others...

Turned down Cornell, McGill, GWU (with 15K scholarship), URichmond (University Scholar), and the London School of Economics for Duke. It'll be worth it!

and you do know if you can get into the program, you can study abroad at LSE for a year (and assuming that you'd be an econ major, i pretty sure all the credits transfer).

i gave up Harvard, MIT, Wharton's M&T program, Cornell and free rides at UConn, Case Western and BU and that was mighty difficult....but i'm a Blue Devil and a Robertson Scholar now and the next 4 years are going to rock!

Turned down Brown, Vanderbilt ($15000/yr scholarship), Tulane Honors($22000/yr scholarship), University of Florida Honors (Full-Ride), University of Miami Honors (Full-Ride)

turned down WUSTL, Georgetown, Colgate, Grinnell, Case Western Reserve, Macalester all with full rides

and Brandeis with some Presidential Scholar thingy...

WUSTL was especially difficult- my brother also goes there, i'd been in correspondence with an admissions officer for over a year, and my parents REALLY wanted me to go there....

but now i am a dukie, so it doesn't matter any more!!!

hehe welp, i didn't give up any scholarships at any other schools but... turned down cornell, uiuc, carnegie mellon, and columbia.

seems like everyone's turned down Cornell, lol.

^ thats so true...
