I'm going to get rescinded.

I got into UCSD for this fall. I took four hard courses this quarter and just found out I got a D in two of them. I have a solid GPA and have been a pretty good student throughout my entire community college career, so this is definitely an anomaly. My provisions for maintaining admission were:

  1. complete 90 quarter units and maintain at least a 3.00 GPA
  2. remain in good academic standing your last regular term with at least 2.00 GPA for that term
  3. complete subject requirements
  4. pass subject requirements of C or better

As you can probably imagine, my current grades violates #2.

I’m so terrified about whats going to happen and I don’t know what to do. The classes I took were NOT major requirements and were high level math classes. My major is also not impacted.

The reasoning for my poor performance this quarter was because of my mom’s recent development of cancer, developing two new mental illnesses(anxiety attacks and schizophrenia) on top of my existing ones (depression and insomnia), and having to euthanize my dog.

What can I do? Does anyone have advice and has been in a similar situation? I’ve spent so many years at community college and have been so isolated, I don’t know what to do anymore.

I also reached out to admissions today, and the officer just told me they wont decide anything until I send my final transcript in. I know other people retake their courses over summer but I don’t even need these classes. Do I still have a chance to go?

You did everything right. You contacted them
Immediately and told them the reason. They are not major req and for what it’s worth UCSD is one of the more forgiving (I hear). Good luck.

@Ohm888 Thank you that’s encouraging. I’ve emailed them too with reasoning. Is there anything else can be done to remediate the situation?

Probably too late to take in summer. I guess just hope for the best. You did mention your mom, right?
