I tried many times to put myself in leadership positions, but I’ve literally failed at gettng each one, ranging from applying to menial club positions such as an intern to running for an elected asb position. At one point I even tried starting my own club to kind of bypass the system but I got turned down. What can someone like me do when confronted with a prompt asking about leadership and how I have affected others through it?
You should take a more creative interpretation of the word “leader”; there are many ways you can be a leader without being a president or founder of a club. Have ever been a mentor to someone else? Taken charge in a group or team to solve a problem? Gone against the status quo and set an example? You can use examples from a job, school assignments, extracurricular activities, your family, your community, etc.
Agree with above - the people who hold club positions are not necessarily leaders. Did you ever make a point about a social issue in a conversation with friends and then saw how you changed their minds?
