I'm having a problem understanding my financial aid package.

You don’t have to worry about how long you are going to stay at a school before you even go there. That is something that will evolve once you are at the school and can change many times. Right now you want to get into a school that you can afford. That is really too much in loans to take for a year, really even for all 4 years in my opinion. Who is going to help you pay off those loans?

Justin, if you stay 2 years and get great grades, you will likely have more transfer opportunities open to you. Also any loans will be less. What do you think your major will be?

I’m probably going to major in Finance.

Justin, neither SH nor NJSU will get you a job with Goldman Sachs (other than back office). Excellent grades at either will allow you to transfer. Good grades will likely get you a on track to good job. Internships will be key. Not having the loan monkey on your back will allow you much flexibiltiy. Willl allow you to be able to go to grad schoo.

Seton Hall gave me an identical ****ty FA package  My EFC=0 that’s a crazy amount of money I’d have to pay  so I pretty much will get 15k in grants…and they expect my parents to take out a loan of 30k… And it’s just my mom…she’s a single mother.

what do i do??! I really wanted to go! :frowning: are you allowed to negotiate?

I REALLY don’t want to go to my instate school–St.Cloud state U :'(

Your family cannot afford Seton Hall.

Take heart, for you are far from alone. Expensive private universities are luxuries denied to 95 percent of us. We manage to graduate from state universities and go on to great jobs, careers and lives - and we number in the tens of millions.

There is nothing wrong with your in-state schools. If you don’t like SCSU, what about the U of Minnesota or Minnesota State-Mankato? Also, have you explored tuition reciprocity programs with neighboring states such as Iowa or Wisconsin?

@polarscribe:thanks for the response  I explored my options…I also got into SDSU but honestly I’m happy to go to SCSU for a year or two then transfer out to the UofM (it’s affordable :D)or other dreamy reach schools  I just feel like I will be deprived of better oppodrtunities if I go to a state school  just my mentality …I’m aalso a city person & very nostalgic for the east cooast and. I love urbaan schools bc of internship opportunities & always having something to do.Although I would rather go to a CC instead I can’t bc of my current home situation.
.so SCSU is pretty much the next best optionI will suck it up and make the most out of my SCSU. experience I guess. Oh yeah, immediate so going to get workstudy for 3k which is nice :D

Oh yeah, thank God I didn’t purchase the plane tickets that cost $340 to fly in NJ for the Trish preview now that I know …
