So,due to financial reasons,I will be unable to attend the college that I was hoping to attend. Now,here I am,a month before school starts, desperately trying to formulate a plan. I know that I want to become an elementary teacher. I just need advice on how to pursue it. My main questions are as follows.
what is more economical, attending a community college for two years, and transferring to a university?
Or
attending online?
Also, what are good, economical online schools for education?
Don’t go to an online school. Huge waste of money and time. Employers will totally dismiss you. Go for CC and transfer to an instate school or something after two years. Youll have the university degree. Its a much much better option.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE. That’s a great opportunity. Online schools are bad in general because they are for-profit, have a reputation of low-quality education/cheating, and honestly the grads don’t fare any better afterwards. Community college is nothing to sneeze at! DON’T DO AN ONLINE OPTION!
I went to CC, and got my Associate’s in Math. Then I transferred to a local university and got all my Education credits.
I graduated with a teaching job offer in hand, having turned down several others.
Elementary Ed is VERY competitive, so take a look at what you get you Associate’s in-- find something that will give your resume extra punch at job hunting time. (Literacy? Anything to do with math or English or language? Any thing to do with Special Ed or audiology or learning styles or learning disabilities or learning at all.)
Also, I know of someone who went to CC a few years after dropping out of highschool. He did well there, finished his degree at NYU in neuroscience and went to get his PhD in neuroscience at Harvard. I don’t know of any success stories like that from an online school.
