OK, so I'm in a little bit of a quandary. I thought I wanted to go to the Air Force Academy for the last five years, since the 8th grade, and I now find myself with a principal nomination from my local representative to the Air Force Academy, and a burning realization that I really want to go to the Military Academy.

I recently heard that there is a possibility to transfer from the Air Force Academy to the Military Academy (this, I'm assuming, is instead of going to an Academy and then cross-graduating into a different branch).

Is this true? How much of a guarantee would I have? Is there anything else I could possibly do to get into West Point?

Help from anyone who knows FOR SURE how something like this works I would appreciate greatly.

Wow, I never would have imagined someone in this predicement. To be honest, I'm not totally sure about this. If you are REALLY confident about this decision, the first thing I would do is contact a FFR from West Point. This relatively low ranking admissions official can be very halepful and likely won't directly communicate your conversations to the academy. If they say there is that possibility, then contact a West Point regional Commander (mine is CPT Romans). Ask them how this would work. If you discover there is a very slim chance for this option, I wouldn't mess with anything. You don't want to lose out on an appointment to Air Force if there really is nothing that can be done.

A few graduates every year cross commission. As in they graduate WP but go into the AF and visa versa. but my understanding is that you have to be a top-notch student to receive this cross-commission.

do you want to be in the army? or do you want to go to WP?

I do understand how the cross-commissioning works, but I'm not really attracted to it. Primarily because the flip-flopping of education atmosphere and career environment would just not feel right.

The only place I want to be is West Point, which is why this pre-academic year transfer sounded like a fitting opportunity, but I gather that it isn't the case.

marines4me, I am from Loudoun county in northern Virginia, which is the 10th District of Virginia represented by congressman Frank Wolf. I believe CPT Romans is the regional commander from Maryland all the way down the Florida along the east coast. Where are you from?
