OK, so I’m in a little bit of a quandary. I thought I wanted to go to the Air Force Academy for the last five years, since the 8th grade, and I now find myself with a principal nomination from my local representative to the Air Force Academy, and a burning realization that I really want to go to the Military Academy.

I recently heard that there is a possibility to transfer from the Air Force Academy to the Military Academy (this, I’m assuming, is instead of going to an Academy and then cross-graduating into a different branch).

Is this true? How much of a guarantee would I have? Is there anything else I could posibly do to get into West Point?

Help from anyone who knows FOR SURE how something like this works I would appreciate greatly.

You can't transfer per se--the programs are just too different academically. There is a one semester exchange usually done during Fall of your junior year where each school swaps about 7 or 8 cadets. I heard this may have been expanded to Spring of sophomore year, too, giving more opportunities--I know it has been between USNA and USAFA.

You can CROSS COMMISSION--something that's more common lately. I know the Army is looking for more Lts, while the AF has too many. Several ROTC detachments and USAFA are allowing newly commissioned Lts to go to the Army to fulfill their commitment.

Falcon,
I originally wanted to become a pilot in the Air Force, either of fighters or heavies. But after careful reflection I realized I didn't want to live on an airport for ten years of my life, and would rather spend that time on the ground.

I don't know exactly why, but I just chased after the wrong angle of the same dream, and just realized it a little late.

Not much to it, but a lot to the ramifications.
