I'm in a desperate situation. Please help me!

I'm a international student.

Okay, so I've recently got my SAT score and it's totally unacceptable to any college. I got 1470 composite score.
I never got that low even on my practice test. Ah well there is nothing else to do now. Since I will apply to US this year. there is noway to get high score in December, I was hoping to give ACT instead. Will I'll be able to do good at ACT?
I heard that many people do good on ACT than SAT, simply I'm not doing good at SAT. I've got my SAT subject test on nov 8, after that I'm gonna study hardcore for ACT.

Please give me some advice, should I tryout ACT?

Thanks.

Many people do better on the ACT than the SAT. I understand that the questions are more straight forward (not as tricky as the SAT) but the time constraints on the test can make it harder for some people than the SAT.

Yeah, your right. Anyone else got any suggestions?

@CrypticDestiny29‌ - where (international) are you coming from?

@menefrega I’m from south-east Asia.

Some schools do not use SAT/ACT for admissions decisions. See <a href=“ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest”>http://fairtest.org/university/optional

ACT has sections on science, right? I bet that you could do well on it if you are a science person!

@4kidsdad Thank you for the link!

@User405 Yes! I’m really good at science.

OP, give the ACT a try. It takes time and is very hard to raise your SAT by more than 2-300 points which will open more doors but it won’t give you the kind of options you may be looking at (if I’m reading between the lines correctly). Work on a plan to get in somewhere and then transfer after sophomore year. A 1470 should get you into University of Arizona, Arizona State, Iowa State, Alabama, UAB, and a host of other schools. There are always test optional schools as well. At 1470 composite, you’re at the average SAT test score. You will have options.

@menefrega I need a lot of financial aid, is there any colleges that’s gonna provide financial aid for international student with 1470 SAT score?

@CrypticDestiny29‌ - do you have some talent or Public Relations hook that a college will want? Are you a national level athlete? Were you almost killed by the Taliban? Were you arrested by the Chinese for leading democracy protests? Can you get refugee status in the US? Something along those lines will help you. Otherwise, your road will be uphill most of the way.

I know of a high level athlete with a 1500 SAT who is getting a lot of financial help from a DIII mid-west college because she is a very good soccer player in a position that the coach needs to fill.

All of the answers are no to your questions :stuck_out_tongue: but I’m a good athlete but not in national level. I play soccer and cricket really well. I guess I should try the ACT maybe I can do better on that.

Try the ACT. Some people just score higher on the ACT, so you may as well try. But it looks like your english could use some work, and comprehension is a huge factor in these tests.

@LisaCF‌ Yes, you’re right.

ACT is really better for international students)) I got 1830 for SAT and then 33 for ACT, which equivalent to 2180

Check out schools that have cricket and that aren’t too demanding for test scores, there may be scholarship money for you if a coach wants you. You’ll need to go to each college’s actual website, these are the colleges’ cricket page:

Email the coach something like
Dear Sir,
My name is … and I am a student from … I will take the ACT in December. I got … on my (GCSEs) and … predicted for (ALevels). I am an avid, regionally-ranked cricket player. I played in the … , won … in the Province of… I can bowl… bat… , run … (<- stats). I’m looking for a college in which to play and where I could get some financial aid. I saw your college’s page on the AmericanCollegeCricket page. Are there students with scholarships there? Do you think I could apply to your university and play for your team?
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
… <- your name

(don’t cite your SAT score :p)
