I'm in a pretty bad mood right now

I have a 4.15 weighted GPA along with a 2000 on the sats. In addition to this I was the founder and president of a school club for two years which I would assume shows leadership abilities. I applied to CSU Northridge, CSU LA, UCLA, USC, and UC Irvine as a film major with the exclusion of UCLA being undecided. I got into both CSUs because they're based on a cutoff of grades. However I was flat-out rejected by UCLA, USC, and UC Irvine. Now, I can understand UCLA and USC rejecting me, they're both pretty tough schools to get into, but UCI? They accepted 60% of those that applied and my gpa and sats are well above the average. Is something wrong? Should I appeal? Can someone rationalize this to me or comfort me or something? My films are good I promise, you can see my youtube account if you want.

Oh no one's responding to this. Thanks for making me feel more sad and alone than I already am.

how tough were your courses?

Ap gov, ap english, calc ab, and apush and bio ap junior year.

your low SATs kept you out of those schools...

wait, even UCI?

hey, try calling them, cause my friend got rejected from ucd and he had good stats but he called them and they said they made a mistake and that his accpetance letter will come in the mail.

I think you should try appealing.

how were your essays because I really don't see a reason why you got rejected.

or maybe it's just not your destiny to go there...

it's their lost, not yours :)

I have to agree with the above poster. File an appeal! It might just work!

My son was rejected from UCSD and UCLA his gpa was the same as yours, 2100 SAT, it was a tough year for the UC's apparantly. He was accepted to UCSB only. He didn't apply to UCI, not sure why exactly. An appeal may be successful, not sure how many actually follow through filing them

Write a letter of intent to the schools that you still want to be considered for. However, you might want to put new information, perhaps talk more about your interest in film and how you will pursue film in college. Perhaps weave in your knowledge about film, such as maybe your favorite directors, movies, etc. and how they influence you. Such a letter will alert the adcom that you are very passionate about film and they might reverse your decision.

Two separate explanations.

declared film major hurted you because these schools have tiny/crowded film departments

bad transcript. yes someone earlier had found out they had screwed up her transcript by skipping classes, and math and sci taken were a whole level below. Ask to see your transcript.

You are not alone. My son (2140 SAT,32 ACT) was WL by Ist choice - not even a reach. We know many great kids who did not get in their match schools, much less their reaches. There really isn't any explanation when good kids get turned down. My son will be OKAY, and so will you.

You guys are pals. I seriously feel a lot better now. Thanks.

read some other threads, you are not alone...many qualified kids were rejected all over the place

it has been an interesting year
